KG22- Xanax is NOT to be taken unless prescribed by a Dr.
Anti-anxiety meds can include.. xanax, klonopin and some SSRI's such as lexapro, celexa, zoloft.

I ask because I have panic disorder. I was diagnosed with PTSD and that resulted in this disorder.
It has been a yr and a half since my 1st panic attack.
I eat well and exercise.. that makes a HUGE difference in how I feel.
I am also on lexapro and klonopin. My Dr. is letting me stay on klonopin for as long as needed. I am not the addictive type and it truly is benaficial to me.
I pray that all of you will have peace.

I don't personally, but my wife does. She had been with a guy that was really controlling, verbally, and mentally abusive, and the situation ended up being that she got stabbed when she was going to work. After that situation, she started going to a psychiatrist, who then diagnosed her with generalized anxiety disorder and post traumatic stress disorder. She has times where she can't be around a very large group of people (even people she knows), she will have very severe panic attacks, and occasionally she will have periods of deep depression. She was on Depakote, Celexa, Wellbutrin, and Ambien before she left Colorado and came here. Once we met and got together, her situation improved dramatically, and she went to a new psychiatrist, who thought that she was on too many different drugs, so he backed her off everything slowly. Once she was off everything, he put her on Paxil, and she has only had a few panic attacks since being started on it. He also put her on Roserem and she does real well with it - she's been diagnosed about 5 years. Just remember, it's not the quantity of medication, it's the quality of medication you're put on.

I've never been to a doctor, but by all the things I've read, I'm sure I have social anxiety disorder. I would definitely try medicine if I could afford it. I got summoned for jury duty a few years ago. I had an anxiety attack from that, but when I showed up, and was standing in a huge room with a ton of people in it, I totally lost it. They must have thought I was a crazy woman. I sobbed, hyperventilated, my chest hurt...it was beyond bad. Needless to say, I was dismissed. I lived in a small town at the time, and didn't want to leave the house for a long time after that because I was so horribly embarassed. I've suffered with this my entire life; I used to want to be a hermit when I grew up. Sometimes that still sounds like a good idea. My family just decided a long time ago that I'm an anti-social *****...nothing more. That way they wouldn't have to see a problem.

Lots of people I know have panic attacks. They feel like they could be having a heart attck, they get chest pains and their pulse races. Sometimes they can feel faint and can even pass out. Doctors prescribe things like Xanax or Valium to help combat the symptoms along with some type of therapy to get over their anxiety. BTW, most doctors won't prescribe those kinds of medications for a prolonged period of time because they can be addictive.

I have something called Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I was always worried about something. I mean irrational fears about what happened at work, how I spoke to my mom, if I was polite to the cashier in the gas station, could I have acted differently in a given situation. I mean if you could name it, I was worried about. I couldn't calm down, and I couldn't sleep at night, I was constantly afraid and anxious all the time from the worry, it was consuming me. I told my Doctor and she put me on Effexor XR 37.5 mg and then she uped the dosage to 77 mg. I feel much better, I'm sleeping better, and I'm less anxious all the time. I've been suffering from this for the past 2 years maybe longer.

Yes I have panic attacks. I just can't think right. My mind won't work hardly.I feel a crushing fear so I can't hardly breath. I just want to get away. There is no reason for this to happen It can get me for no reason at all. Yes a doctor diagnosed me and I take medicine if it gets really bad.
