I have straight hair. But my beautiful daughter has long, soft wavy hair and she is 11. She says "my hair is ugly", she wants to be like her favorite TV stars. How can I make her realize her hair is beautiful too? Help me please.

Show her curlykids.com or naturallycurly.com because they have tons of pictures of celebrities and average women/girls with beautiful curls and waves. Maybe you can find some new techniques and styling products to help her like her hair more when it's wavy.

That's harder than it sounds. While there are many beautiful women with wavy or curly hair, right now she is fixated on straight hair. People no matter what their age, what what they don't have. It's that "The grass is greener" thing.

Remind her that there are millions of women who pay big money to have waves and curls put into their straight hair. Wavy hair generally looks fuller and has more volume than straight. She's only 11, so many styles are probably a little too mature for her, but once in awhile for going out, help her achieve some flattering looks that show off her face and play up her hair. A half up half down style would be a good place to start. Maybe take a day where you wave or curl your hair, and she straightens hers. That way she can see the differences in how you both look.

I think that you may want to try finding pictures of other celebrities that have hair similar to hers. Maybe she can see that while straight is beautiful, wavy can be too.

For now, she may be a little young for all the work it takes for an every day straightening. Between the styling products and the time with a flat iron, she'll also be doing some major damage to her hair. And getting it done at the salon is even worse, too many chemicals. If she still doesn't see how beautiful her hair is, make a compromise with her. If you think she should wait until 15 to straighten it, and she wants to do it now, then maybe agree that at 13 she can. That will give her at least a little time to gorw and mature some more. By then, she may change her mind and decide that she likes her hair.

Good Luck!

Tell your daughter that she is really lucky! I have dead-straight hair (as in I don't use a straightening iron - at all) and I wish it was wavy. Not curly necessarily, but wavy. Show her pictures those TV stars before they went on the straight and narrow. Most of them had lovely wavy hairstyles at some point! Beyonce, Angelina Jolie, Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Aniston etc...

Take her to a stylist and have the stylist tell her how blessed she is to have wavy hair. Stylists love wavy hair because it can go straight or curly really easily.

If you have some money to spend, take her to a stylist that will show her how her hair looks straight and curly and wavy. Take pictures. Treat her like a star...Make it fun for her.

Wavy is coming back too. Have someone tell her that. I know girls that have hair so straight that they have to have a waver to get those waves they want.

I have wavy hair and I love it. However, I do flat iron my hair sometimes because I love the way it looks when it's straight too. The only reason I straighten my hair so I have a variety of different styles, to change my look around.

for now, like what kiki said, u cant do anything!! so just buy her hair products that protect her hair from getting burned from overusing her straightener. or buy her one [a straightener] that wont destroy her hair.

whenever u can, point out photos of celebs sporting natural wavy hair or curly locks! say things like "i think wavy hair looks way better on her.." or u no.. things along that line!!--really, seeing lindsay lohan and reese witherspoo and other celebs with wavy hair made me like my own more!

im 16 yrs old. and around the age of 14, i was hit with something that said straight hair is BEAUTIFUL! but i've come to appreciate and love my own wavy hair! like kiki said, she'll fall out of the phase. =] =] good luck!!

You absolutely HAVE to tell her that it's just a phase and for her to stick to her beautiful hair. That she doesn't have to do what society seems to tell you what is more attractive and "cool". Tell her to be proud and that millions and millions would probably love her hair! Especially the Asians who tend to have super-straight hair... anyway, be gentle but firm; you don't want her doing anything to that nice hair of hers.

Hope this helped and good luck! Eleven year olds are stubborn... ;)

Show her 'beautiful' celebrities with long, soft wavy hair.
At the same time, show her ugly celebrities with straight hair.

Anyway, did you straighten your hair TOO?

it's a phase. You have to give it time.

Just about everybody w/ curly or wavy hair goes through it. I didn't learn to respect my curly hair until I turned 19 years old.

All I can say is don't let her do anything to permanently damage her hair!!!
