It really depends on how you feel about the time you're going to spend in traveling.

Can you sit and relax, read or multi-task while on the train or are you driving?

Perhaps if the travel time is lengthy, you can do it for a period of time whatever time frame you put on it and then rethink your situation.

Driving is about 18-20 hours. You could check out flight service from Madison, Milwaukee, or Chicago for best rates. Hope you have deep pockets. Also, you could take the Amtrak from Chicago to NYC but that could be two days travel time.
