I don't know. I am still trying to figure it out. I am a chemistry major and I believe in God. And I am going to be a scientist is two years. Chemistry is Science. So I really don't know yet. I had to take some religon classes because of the college I go to. Sometimes I think I figured it out, but then I go back to the seven days thing with God. If you really think about evolution, it makes sense. But it does not go with what the bible says. I mean the bible could be somewhat wrong. But I don't know. Good question though.

There is simply no proof whatsoever that the bible is anything but a work of fiction placed in a real setting. Jesus was a pain to the Romans but no mention is made of him at all in their records whilst the other Jews who were around at the time claiming to be the saviour were all meticulously recorded!!
The bible was selected as a handful of scrolls from hundreds found at the same time. It has long been said that all the other scrolls disagree fundamentally with those chosen for the bible. Where are the other scroles? Locked up in the Vatican vaults with absolutely no one allowed access. What are they hiding?
Science does not have to prove the bible wrong. The Bible has no basis in fact that is provable other than a few locations.
What can be proved is that the Bible copies most of its stories from much older religions. The story of the flood is actually recorded by several much earlier archeological finds of other religions material. Even the legend of King Arthur follows the same religious stereotype!
Christians who need proof or who they think have to prove the Bible lose sight of the fact that Christianity is a belief. They are required to believe without proof. Science on the other hand exists only with proof. Scientific theories only become laws or facts when they have been proved. Thus the "Big Bang" is still only a theory even though there is a lot of scientific proof supporting it.
Christians should realy stop seeking to marry science and religion it is simply like trying to mix oil and water!

The genesis account is poetic and noah's ark was local. Try to reconcile this account of creation with genesis. You cannot.
“Do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years, as one day.” – 2 Peter 3:8
Biblical scholars have determined, that these words cannot be applied to Genesis. When you read their opinions, they are interpretations and not facts. Thus, we need to decide what these words mean, not others. I firmly do not agree with them.
“Even when all the experts agree, they may well be mistaken.” --Bertrand Russell
When one reads Genesis, there are 2 statements that suggest that days indicate stages, and are not literally days.
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then He blessed them… So the evening and morning were the 6th day.” – Genesis 1:27
When biblical scholars do analysis of the words in Genesis, there seems to be no doubt that the word day, as used, means a standard 24-hour day. Therefore, a female was created on the 6th day. Yet, later in Genesis are these verses.
“Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and keep it…
And then much later, the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him’…
Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them…
[God spent a lot of time with Adam. There are about 10 Million species. This level of communications would have taken years. Then comes the verse…]
“And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man” – Genesis 2:15-22 excerpts
I am not a biblical scholar, but facts are facts. Regardless of what is called a day, the sequence of activities and events suggests a great passage of time for the 6th day.
It appears one of the premises is wrong since these accounts appear to be contradictory, and only one can be correct in terms of timing.
Another Story of Creation:
Maybe the story of creation, right or wrong is a factual though possibly poetic account of creation. In that case, maybe poetic license was taken in using the word “day”. If you read Proverbs, the account is more scientific and appears more realistic.
“The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was even an earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth; while as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, or the primal dust of the world.
When He prepared the heavens, I was there, when He drew a circle on the face of the deep, when He established the clouds above, when He strengthened the fountains of the deep, when he assigned the sea its limit, so that the waters would not transgress His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside Him as a Master Craftsman.” -- Proverbs 8:22-30
How would anyone back then know that the Earth had a beginning? Until the “Big Bang” was accepted, most people believed in an eternal universe.
How would anyone back then know that the mountains arose and were not created when the Earth was created? I do not think this took one day. The primal dust sounds like atomic particles. Who else in 4,000 BC spoke of this? How long did it take to prepare the heavens? Again, it does not sound like one day.
Figuring out how to set limits on the waters and the foundations of earth sounds like a powerful science, and maybe even some trial and error. Science is finding our universe is highly designed.
Who was the Master Craftsman? A Master Craftsman designs and builds. Jesus was a carpenter, and a carpenter is a designer and a builder. Was this Jesus beside God when the universe, earth and man were created? Regardless, this is an awesome, and to me, a more realistic account of creation.
Summary:
God is Truth. Science pursues the Truth, trying to understand God's creation. If the Bible does not line up with science, remember, God is not a deceiver, He is Truth. The Bible needs to be understood in its historical context and within the goals of the writer. This is different than science.

I don't think that science and the Bible totally contradict one another. Remember, the bible was scripted when science began. No, there weren't a bunch of people standing around with a bunch of microscopes, but sense man could speak, science HAS existed, it just wasn't always called that.
We learn from experiences, the Bible is experience (weather they are made up or not, is not for me to say). Science is all learned knowledge.
I think where science and religion differ is how these events are explained. If you truly believe that a God, whatever God, created what you see, controls what happens, etc. Then follow a religion that speaks that to its followers.
Just keep in mind, you can believe in God and still believe that science explains all the courses of action our planet takes. Maybe you don't believe in a Catholic God or a Protestant God, or what have you, but you still believe he exists.
You have to work religion into your faith, not the other way around. If the religion you are following does not fit your beliefs, then perhaps its not the right one for you. If you can't find the "right" one, just believe what you believe, and you will be fine.

Actually, everything that the bible has mentioned concerning science is correct (despite the language differences - see my earlier comment on Old English "fowls"). The Bible stated that the earth was a circle and hanging upon nothing. The Jewish standards for cleanliness, caring for dead bodies, and human waste are all proven to be accurate (for thier time) by modern medicine. I mean pork was unclean because they didnt have ways to keep it cold - whereas we do now.
The same goes for historical accounts. Archeological findings have proven even some "obscure" statement from the Bible - such as the ruler of Babylon at the time of Daniel, the prophet.

science is the study of how God makes the world run.
Don't get confused about what is scientific fact and what is only scientific theory.
Also don't get confused on what the Bible says, and what you think the Bible is saying.

Great question. I really like this.
I think that it is possible that god and science exist together. I don't think that god would createe all existence just slap shot. I am sure that he would creat rules and guidelines. That is what science is, our understanding of the rules of nature and existence. But then I also think that every now and then it is possible that god does not like the results that his rules have created and he can make a miracle.

That's the principle of Deism.
God set the universe into motion and then walked away. No heaven, no hell, no divine intervention, no intelligent design, no Jesus as the son of God.
I don't believe in God myself, but I think that Deism is a lot less ridiculous than Abrahamic dogma.

You can't combine science and god because science works by attempting to falsify its hypotheses.
"god" can't be falsified. No data cannot be explained *after the fact* by invoking some kind of "god" explanation.
for a classic example of this, see Young Earth Creationists who say that dinosaur bones are actually not real, but fakes placed there by god to test your faith in creationism.

I believe God is combined to anything that has to do with the universe. How is it that people believe things only when there are facts how about getting out of our comfort zones and tking a chance, look what Jesus did for us.. He sacrified his life to give us more chances!
