Honesty is always best because it is very hard to filter between what is honest and what is sugarcoating. So when the time comes that you want a real honest opinion, how will you know? Additionally, if someone is sugarcoating everything, then wouldn't that mean the lines of communication are bad??

I think people really want honesty but often times can't accept/handle the truth. So I guess in way it is sugarcoating. I always say what I don't know won't hurt me, or at least I hope it won't. Its good to be perfectly honest with some things, like your sexual activity.

As for myself I want total honesty. sugarcoating hides the real truth and the real person! Unfortunately most people are not honest about anything. Even a woman friend of mine lies about her age! ridiculous I say! I was corresponding with a man by email hoping to meet some day, he sent me his picture and didn't tell me it was 10 years old! When I finally met him I didn't want to be seen in public with him! It's honesty that counts. If you lie you always get caught.

Honesty.
That's the only thing that can maintain good relationship, even with a friend or your gf/bf.
If you start talking lies, you have to cover that up with a lie...and it never ends.
Even if you have cheated on your partner, you must comfront him/her. I think keeping a dark secret forever is going to kill you. It might come up any time after, and would hurt your relationships more. Comefront early, and it might be a small wound.

It really depends on what the question is and who is asking - however, for me personally, honesty is the best policy, tampered with tact.

I always want honesty. Usually I tell my friends don't ask me something if you don't want an honest answer.
