A well dressed young man and woman were in my back yard the other day looking into my window with binoculars and writing something down in a notebook. When I went outside to find out what they were doing, they were gone. Then a minute later I noticed them sitting in a van in front of my house, again with the binoculars pointed towards my window and writing. I yelled out "exuse me?" and they sped away. Who are these people and what do they want?

I called the police and made a report but they were clueless.

No it's not the meter reader. They were dressed in business attire. Lot's of jokes that aren't that funny but if anything like this has ever happened to you or you've heard of this please answer.

No nothing illegal is going on on in the house. "If you haven't done anything wrong don't worry" doesn't work because that's not the problem. The problem is people peeking in my windows with binoculars.

Counter with your activities. Get a detailed description of the vehicle(s) they are using. Write down the license number. Photograph them with still and video cameras for your own personal review, evidence and documentation for the police.

It's not funny, if you're on the straight and narrow you have my sympathy. When I rented a house years ago and moved in, I noticed two obvious surveillance guys sitting in their unmarked car across from my new residence who sped away the second I started across the street to ask them what the hell they were looking for. 3 days later happened again, this time I went out the other door, circled the block, and came up next to the car to ask before they could leave. Turns out they were looking for the previous tenant who had been gone for months, really piss poor work on their part. That's what it took to get them off my house.
Yours may have a wrong address! That happens a lot too.

FYI, calling the cops they wouldn't tell you if they did know, but probably the dispatcher wouldn't know anyway, even if it was her department. Call again and ask for investigations, if they swear it's not them? Call the state police and ask for investigations, see what they say. Most addresses in this country have 10 layers of law enforcement over them, from local to federal.

The lady's answer above me is also a good possibility, insurance companies hire surveillance PI's if they think someone has a bogus workman's comp insurance claim. Are you in that category, collecting benefits for a work related injury? That would get this type of attention, too.

Sound like private investigators. I had a guy sit in a car for hours across the street from my house taking pictures and writing in a notebook when he was confronted he threatened me i called the cops and many hours and phone calls later they finally told me too bad he is a liscenced investigator and there is nothing they could do. Oh by the way he was sent by the child molester who has been stalking my child all her life but hey we don't have any rights just the rich child molester. So i told the cops that since i suffer from post traumatic stress disorder it will be ok if i kill him if he ever comes back. Magically he never has also i threatened to go to the local newspaper and have them print the story of the cops who help child molesters stalk their future victims, needless to say it ended there. Good Luck, take pictures and call the media

Probably just the meter reader. I clobbered one years ago with a two by four as he poked his head out from the bushes by my front windows.
