A) Terrorists can't be negotiated with. They must be killed or captured. "They hate us" because they - Muslim extremists - hate freedom. In the post-9/11 world, the US cannot wait for "imminent" threats. It must aggressively - even preemptively and unilaterally, if necessary - wipe out terrorist networks and the governments that support them. At the same time, the US can work to emasculate terrorism by aggressively promoting the cause of freedom and democracy around the world.
B) American hypocrisy and hubris led to the Sept. 11 attacks. To answer the question "Why do they hate us?" Americans must question the "might makes right" approach of US foreign policy. To win the war against terrorism, US leaders must remove the conditions that breed anti-American hatred.

C) As 9/11 so viciously illustrates, terrorism knows no boundaries. To win the war against terrorism, the US must lead a truly global effort to root out terror networks and compel broad-based reform for regimes that harbor terrorists.
D) The US should not apologize for spreading American values around the globe, but its imperial behavior helped inspire the terrible Sept. 11 attacks. The US must relentlessly prosecute terrorists and work to undercut regimes that support them, but to prevent another Sept. 11, the US must stay truer to its founding as a republic by protecting the American people and staying out of other nations' business.

Smokinpussy had a pretty good answer, I agree with a lot of it. Knee jerk leftists keep trying to roll out the peace carpet even though "The Religion of Peace" wackos just light it on fire every damned time. Knee jerk right wingers keep trying to roll out the bomb racks to the B2's every time an islamist group sneezes. Is there any happy middle ground?
I don't agree with and I don't like the teachings of the Quran (or any other way you want to spell it), but I am perfectly happy to live and let live if they will too. Unfortunately approximately 70% of those folks want me dead just because I am not an islamist. Yes, I wrote 70% and of course that is just a rough estimate, but be assured that that's in the ballpark. A vast majority of the followers of "The Religion of Peace" either openly support the conversion or destruction of all infidels (that means you and me and all our friends and loved ones) or are just happy to have it happen. We have all seen the videos of islamists dancing in the streets after 9-11 and we have all seen videos of the daily American flag burnings by islamists around the world. I sure see a hell of a lot more flag burnings and effigy burnings than I see islamists denouncing them. The CNN and MSNBC islam apologists can't seem to drum up much footage of islamists condemning the terrorists and you know they'd show it if they could. The mainstream islamists don't condemn or denounce the islamist terrorists because the majority of them support it whether they say it in public or not.
I'd like to say that elements of all 4 responses are needed, but I think the only practical and necessary response is "A" and I really don't like being forced to say that. I feel that "The Religion of Peace" has forced me into this posture by their own actions. They have offered us two and only two clear choices. We either convert to islam and do what they want or we are to die. Their book, which their religion says must be taken literally word for word, instructs them that it must be this way. As an American I have the right to freedom of religion, it is and was so important to our country and its forefathers that it is the very first Amendment to our Constitution, ratified in 1791: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." Nobody in this world is going to take that from me without killing me.
Islam gives us just two choices, kiss their butts or die. I am not going to pucker up and I sure as hell ain't volunteering to die to make those idiots happy. If they obviously want me dead and are documented as trying to kill me, do I have any other rational choice but to do my best to kill them first?
Any of you peaceniks who want to lay down for them and have your heads chopped off are more than welcome to do that, but I will fight them right to the end of my dying breath. I believe that the vast majority of my countrymen who are not America Haters will do the same. The anti-war Bush haters seem to think the terrorists will leave us alone if we play nice with them. They don't seem to understand that the only nice play the islamists will accept is to convert to their perverted religion, point our new little rugs at mecca and chant like psychos every time some damned horn goes off. I absolutely agree with every American's right to hate America, but that doesn't mean I'm going to be a traitor to my country because they hate it so much. Freedom WILL triumph. If you want to be sheep for the slaughter by islam, I say get the hell out of America and I'll happily contribute to the cost of your trip.

The terrorist do not hate freedom in and of itself. What they hate is religious freedom, meaning specifically they view any religion other than their own as an abomination and a threat. Islam means submission to Allah. Their holy book calls for them to convert, enslave or kill all who are not Muslim. The USA promotes freedom OF religion and more recently has been pushing the liberal's perceived right of freedom FROM religion.
The only way for the USA to win it's war on terror is to annihilate the Jihadists. The quickest way to do this is to stir them up like a den of snakes. As they crawl out from under their rocks to attack we can destroy them.
Will this create more terrorists? Of course not. That would be like saying building more abortion clinics would create more Christian terrorists. The extremists are extreme due to the efforts of other extremists to indoctrinate them. I've never know a little Christian kid to say he wanted to blow up an abortion clinic. Simply because most mainstream Christians do not adhere to this type of philosophy. However there have been Christian terrorists who do this due to the indoctrination from the anti-abortion extremists. It's not their response to abortion clinics, it's their response to the indoctrination of extremist beliefs.
Fighting terror and spreading freedom does not create more terrorists. Terrorists create more terrorists.

We need to ask why we continue to support dictatorships.. like Saudi Arabia, then act shocked when extremism is born from that oppression. When attacked, it would also be a fairly good idea to attack the guy who attacked us. NOT going after Saddam who had nothing to do with 9/11. Bush continues to tie 9/11 to Iraq, even though no one finds any credibility in that. His continual quagmire in Iraq makes the US look weak and that in itself emboldens terrorists around the globe. In the long run, I have to agree with response B.
As a nation we need to ask questions and be informed. We need to ask why we continually support dictatorships. We supported Saddam during the Iran-Iraq war. We handed Iraq the very weapons they later used on Kuwait and us. What kind of policy is that? World poverty and oppression breeds discontent and fosters hatred. We need to lead.... not just react.

B) So you're saying US Leaders need to remove themselves. Couldn't agree with you more on that!!!!
Fear breeds fear, if we focus on war, that's what we get - war on terrorism, war on drugs, war on this, that, the other thing... we as a nation are becoming more & more angry, fearful, closed off to reality as it could/should be.
I think the real answer lies in C) REFOCUS. Focus entirely on PEACE. Think peace, live peace, wish people well, gosh, even pray for them if the spirit moves you. But I think if we keep pursuing and harping on the negative, that's what we get. So focus on the positive, put a smile on your face and brighten your outlook, and it will have a positive ripple-effect. We, the American people, COULD once again have a positive affect on our country as well as the world as a whole.
