His death would still be part of the plan but we wouldn't have a
symbol like the cross to represent Christ's act.

This is a great question. It calls into the mix a variety of issues. (don't be insulted by a few of the previous answers---SOMETIMES CHRISTIANS THINK ARROGANCE IS ACCEPTABLE BECAUSE THEY ARE SAVED. NOT THE CASE, BROTHERS AND SISTERS.)

Stoning is a punishment reserved for very specific crimes...in the Hebrew world, prostitution, heresy, blasphemy, and adultry were crimes punishable by stoning. His punishment would have been dealt out by anyone that could toss a stone big enough to hurt Him, but small enough that it wouldn't kill Him immediately. Stoning is a punishment of atonement, causing great suffering before death. Certainly, the victim/accused being stoned WILL bleed.

However, it can cause broken bones: according to prophesy, Christ's bones would not have been broken in His suffering and death.

That being said:

Christ WOULD have been stoned to death, except His accusors were in a big hurry to get the job done, and were required by their own law to wait until after Passover to execute Him. That's why they turned Him over to Pilate--they wanted it done NOW. It's my opinion that they knew that He would have been proven to be the Son of God easily by many, many supporters of Jesus if they'd have waited until after passover. They could not allow that to happen. This is why they waited until the middle of the night to arrest Him, try Him and take Him to Pilate.

The Sanhedrin were VERY cunning in their plan. And make no mistake, it WAS a plan. In stoning, there is an element of the punishment giving the victim/accused atonement for their sin. They didn't just want Him dead...they wanted to HUMILIATE Him, and NOT offer Him an avenue of atonement. There was no other way but to have Him crucified.

Then he wouldn't have been our savior, he probably would have been just an ordinary prophet. Because part of Jesus being who he is was him fulfilling the parts of scripture that described what the messiah would do. One of the things that needed to be done was form him to be restrained to a tree and killed. I guess he could have been stoned while on the cross or killed in some other way while on the corss. But if not then he would not be our savior.

It's hard to imagine the Lord dying by some other means. I guess I don't understand your question. Are you asking if his death could still atone for sin if it was by some other form of execution? Probably so. But he was crucified for a reason: That was the form of execution used by the Romans in the 1st century, and it was prophesied by King David that the Messiah would be crucified. (See Psalm 22)

The God of the Old Testament, Yahweh demands "Blood Sacrifice" for disobedience (Sin) and the blood of goats, sheep and Bulls could not satiate Him...it must be the blood of His own Son.

"Without the shedding of blood there can be No remission of sin".
The methods of death you desribe do not comply to the ritual slaying required by Old Testament Law.

I would still take that religious rationale over the horrors of Islam!

Very good Question.
The Old Testament SAVED People.
The New Testament did away with the Old Testament(Contract with GOD for Man to be Redeemed).
The New Testament involved Dying on the Cross.
Did you know that there were Other Way's Mankind coulda' been Redeemed?
Nothing is Impossible with GOD.

As kids we were taught great Wisdom: the scriptures would not, then, have been fulfilled.

It strikes me that many Old Testament lines were given new meanings after purported New Testament events took place.

And so Bush n' Blair bomb Lebanon!

We would still be redeemed from the curse of the laws and will have the choice to receive the gift of salvation thru Jesus Christ.
