Because you were probably not the sickest. Hospitals do not work on first come first serve. The sicker get seen first. I work in a trauma center so if a trauma roles in everyone has to wait. The latest thing in ER is "fast track". Patent's that are not as critical get seen by a nurse practitioner (NP). This keeps the non-critical patent's from backing up. The research shows that this is a much better system

It depends on your injuries and how serious the situation is. The resources in all ERs are limited and emergencies crop up regularly so the triage nurse will assess you and assign priority.
By the way,4-6 is pretty good compared with the average 8 hour wait that we have here.

It's called triage. They take people with more serious problems earlier than people with less threatening problems. Been there, done that. If you want quick service, you could complain of chest pain and then collapse on the floor, but they might get a little bent when your ekg comes out fine.
'Nuff said?

Because this is 2006, not 1956, first of all.
To get public perception on the learning curve, since in the future everyone may look upon current predicaments with nostalgia.

because all of the techs and the Dr's are on breaks. They say that they are just so busy, and that it takes time to run the tests and to get back the results, but I don't think that is what it really is. I think they secretly charge us by the hour to be there so they take their sweet time and don't think that we have any other place that we would rather be..

If you happen to go there at the height of a trauma, then you are pushed back as far as importance. They will take a gun shot before your stomach ache.
