you need to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. The 45 minute thing is not true, but don't over 60 minutes at a time.
Do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.
The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!
Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.
Good luck and stick at it.

The efficiency of your muscles is very high indeed.
If you exercise go slow and steady, then you will burn fat.
If you exercise at a high rate then you just burn sugar, as the muscles need more and quick energy then.
Reduce Cola, fruit juices that very often contains a lot of sugar, snacks and forget French fries.
Your nerve system needs about 100 to 120 grams of sugar a day, but that sugar can come from bread, potatoes or pasta. An over consumption in sugar intake will be stored as fat in your body.
It is very difficult to loose weight, if you reduce the calorie intake too low, your body will adapt to that. You can live on such small amount as 50 grams of fat a day and that is one reason why it is so difficult to reduce the fat of your body.
There is one way we tried 1985 at a medical school and it worked well for the most of the people.
Eat as you use to do but watch the calorie intake so it is not too heavy. On the third day eat nothing – drink water (very important) and see to that your Central nerve system have at least some sugar to run from. (Water and sugar keeps you away from headache)
The body will not have a chance to adapt to this treatment and will be running to the same amount of calories as it uses to do.
In your case it could be, that you should not eat every forth day or seventh day, I can’t say as one has to find out yourself.
You had better to see a doctor in medicine, who can help you and give accurate advices in your struggle to become slimmer. It can’t be given at such a long distance as we have now.
Good luck and remember that there is no easy way. It is hard and you have to struggle for your goal.
PS I lost weight by going for a ride on bicycle every morning for one and an half hour before breakfast. All what I lost in fat then was away.

for any exercise plan, you should immediately lose 5-20 pounds of water weight in the first day (and this generally can't be made up by simply drinking the same amount as you lost.) after that, any weight loss will be far more gradual, only if you are doing aerobic exercises (vs anaerobic exercises, which build muscle mass and counteracts any fat loss.)
talk to the trainer at the gym to get you on an aerobic exercise plan, not anaerobic.

Muscle is heavier than fat. If you havn't been working out much before now then you'll build up a certain amount of muscle quite quickly. At this stage a tape measure is the best indicator but keep it up, Rome wasn't built in a day!
