obviously we are not all going to agree on much, but can we have conversations that are informative and intelligent instead of insulting and degrading? When people have presented their point of view in a way as to communicate intelligently I have learned alot about other religions or ways of thinking. When they insult me or my beliefs my mind turns off and I really don't want to hear what they have to say. Your thoughts- peace.

Peace to you also!
I agree with you.
Thats why I sometimes use humour instead of insults.
I think humour is ok.
Tough I have a big problem containing myself with racists...I usually call them narrow-minded, ignorant...
Well after all, its the truth and nothing but!

God bless you!

I think the problem is that when people insult others beliefs, it is mostly down to ignorance and miseducation about the culture and lifestyle, but some of the angry posts on the boards are due to pure provocation by other idiots trying to stir up hatred. Things are going to take a long time to change and it's not religion to blame, but the people who use it as an excuse for their actions; they have a lot to answer for

Yes it is possible, but very difficult, as some people are not interested in furthering their own knowledge, but in simply attacking other people as a way of relieving their own stress.

i know people who come onto yahoo answers when they are pissed off, JUST so that they can 'safely' have a go at someone that represents ideas that they don't like. They enjoy arab bashing or christian baiting or gay bashing, or whatever the group is that they hate on that particular day.

I go on here to help people and try to enlighten, inform and educate. I feel there is sometimes a lot of people running headlong into each other on here, which is sad, but hopefully, over time, people will use this resource for good and learn from it, instead of for ill.

Some people just don't have any social skills and use this as a way to vent their frustrations with the world.

Personally, I am agnostic (if you are talking about religion) but I don't call anyone a "bad person" or "stupid" for believing any certain belief.

For other subjects, I try to keep an open mind. You will find intelligent answers as well as unintelligent ones. You just have to "skim" and pass by the crappy ones.

ah yes the idea that we should all respect each others points of view. What ticks me off is when people don't understand that I am happy with my religious beliefs, that I don't need or want the bible shoved down my throat. I don't switch of I get mad, and sometime I get so mad that I become a potty mouthed git.

I wish it could all be open and understand but some people don't want to understand they want to use this as a forum for pushing and shoving their own views and not taking the time to understand and respect people of differing cultures.

Excellent question BTW

I agree.

It's not because we do not understand the reason for asking a question is to start insulting them. Luckily I don't ask a lot of questions so I don't see a lot of insults directed towards me.
Instead of asking stupid questions and wasting every-ones time we should indeed be open minded. I also think there is room for an occasional witty joke or question, why not? But not all the time.

Peace

That was philosophical of me

at the end of the day, this is a virtual world and you are all virtual people. What you say I might not agree with, yet who am I to tell you that your opinion is wrong?

Diversity is the basis of Human life, if I cant see ya, you dont exist, so how can your words offend or degrade me?

i think that there are people which are going to put down intelligent answers that will help people, but then there are people which ask stupid questions. I think religion is just one of them provoking things where some people are just to harsh and not understanding enough, or are just plain insulting.

Then let's start with an insult: I think you're being pedantic. Now that you have stopped reading, might I add that like anyone christinsane you refuse to get into a genuine debate, that you are opposed to opposing views and as a result have NOTHING TO ADD to a site where people expect answers to questions? If not, then please allow me to express my sincere concern at your mental health.
