Yes. I miss that feeling of carefreeness that's in the air--even if you're working, people dress more casually, have lunch outside or go for walks instead of eating. Kids somehow seem better behaved--they're not as defiant, eager to do things together, open to new ideas. Neighbors visit with each other while they're doing yardwork, something they don't do other times of the year. People tend to do more impulsive things--impromptu picnics, drives to the countryside.
Mainly I feel sad at summer's end because I loathe fall. I hate seeing all the beautiful, broad leaves curl up and die. Even in the East where they change color it's only for a short time and then they turn brown and fall to the ground where they're crushed to dust. Flowers don't continue to bloom, they only turn brown and droop their heads in defeat. I know things go underground and will appear in their new glory in the spring, but it's such a long time to wait. At least in winter the snow will cover the earth's nakedness. The only good thing is that the time change occurs and it gets dark early. When you're driving down a street the light from the windows of homes throw out a cheerfulness that there may be a family gathering together.
Great, now I'm depressed and counting down the number of days before official end of summer! Nice question, though.

Yes. In particular because I have kids still in school, summer ends before labor day rather than Sept. 21. I get really depressed the first few days of school. Even though I work through the summer, I so appreciate coming home at night and not hearing, "help me with my homework", or "I need such and such for school tomorrow", or "sign this, this and this. And, oh by the way, I need $$ for this and that." I hate the disruption to the evenings, and the rushed mornings. In a few more years when my life doesn't revolve around the academic year, I imagine I won't experience the dread that's beginning to set in.

Yes. It makes me sad because we have a fairly limited amount of daylight in the winter (usually 8-10 hours), and I love having tons of sun. I don't like the heat but I LOVE having 19 hours of sunlight. I have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) which tends to kick in by earlly fall (probably in the next few weeks). I also don't like winter driving (the roads can get pretty bad up here). Summer is always much too short!

Nope the end of summer has me doing the happy dance, the kids go back to school. Which means if I have a day off during the week I can actually enjoy it with out hearing the arguing that comes from sisters. And that means I'll actually get mom time(something that's very rare in my house, both girls are mommas girls){LOL}

Summers like weekends never last long enough. I hate it when summer is over where I live cause it means cold weather is approaching with nasty snow to trudge through. I do, however , enjoy the fall foilage. The mountains look so colorful.

no i do not feel sad at the end of summer and here are the reasons
1 all the big stores start decorating for Xmas giving you plenty of warning it is on the way(just in case you accidentally forget it comes every year)
2 it starts getting colder till eventually round about mid January you are sat there freezing your *** off .
3 you never get to see daylight (you set off for work its dark you finish work its dark no need to buy any more sunblock)
4 all your bills double in size you need to put your heating on occasionally to start with then never turn it off for a few months at a time (yes we all have cash to burn)

Yes, it always makes me sad...because with the end of summer, I know that winter isn't too far away...
Most of all, I regret the fact that I didn't get to do more
"summer things" -- swimming, eating watermelon, listening to live outdoor bands, going camping. . .sigh.

Yes it does, studies have shown that direct contact with sunlight will elevate mood and help to process important vitamins and minerals. In the winter there is less sunlight and less chances to frolic in it. For me, the heat also means pain relief, so you are not alone!
