this falls into the classic trap of assuming humans are the only worthy creatures on earth....I hate this question. If a tree falls in the woods, then there are a ton of animals (with ears, eyes and brains, however different from ours) that no doubt hear it quite well, and yes, it still makes a sound, EVEN when your arrogant ears aren't there to catch it. right, mate?

Actually, no it doesn't. The sound you hear is actually vibrations in your ear that your brain converts to noise. So if there are no living creatures with ears and brains around to 'hear' it, it does not make a noise...just some air vibrations going all over the place.

Philosophically speaking this is related to something called solipsism, its about being totally subjective...

but you can disprove aspects of it to some degree...
ie... when you cover your eyes do other people cease to exist?... to test this, cover your eyes and ask somebody to poke you in the shoulder...

This proves just because you aren't there to hear, or aren't looking, doesn't mean things around you merely cease to exist...

The sound vibrations are still there, even if there are no receptors to pick them up. And I'm sure that somewhere there are squirrels, chipmunks, birds, etc. who hear something.
