I don't know if you have been keeping up with the trends lately but we are kind of divided over here in the USA. Personally I think multiculturalism only works when there is no favoritism. It is healthy for a society to be diverse with regard to the types of people entering the system. I think if change occurs too fast people become frightened. It is kind of like what we are dealing with when we think about terrorism. Just because people are different doesn't mean they can't get along but when extremism comes into play it stalls the whole system. All we can do as citizens is to try to keep the fear out of our daily lives and away from our interacting relationships. It may turn out that the terrorist image does more damage than good for the extremist cause, unfortunately it may take 50 years to get this message across.

Yes it is. Is USA multicultural? I dont think so. Did the politicians ask the public if we wanted to become a so-called multicultural society. No! All they were after was cheap labour for the mills in Lancashire and votes. Would any of the countries that send their surplus population here allow British people to settle in their country in the hundred thousand. No! Imagine several million christians settling in Pakistan.
Ireland has had several hundred years and it still isn't integrated. Both peoples are Christian and white but have been at each others throats for hundreds of years.
Now we can't open our mouths for what would have been considered at one time as 'fair comment' without being called racist. I am fed up with this country being colonised particularly by brown skinned heathens. The politicians are now worried about problems ahead but have left it too late.

What is this multiculturalism that some people here in Britain are apparently so proud of.Is it the dividing up of cities and towns into ethnic sectors? If it is then we have already taken a leaf out of Americas book and it's not working.
As a white person do you feel comfortable walking past groups of black youths of a night time?
As a black person do you feel comfortable walking past groups of white youths of a night time?
As an asian man do you feel safe attending a football match?
As a chinese person do you ..........hold on where are the chinese people in this country,I never seem to see them.Maybe that's how they survive in this so called multicultural society, they keep themselves to themselves that way nobody gives them any shite.

It seems to me that the problem is this: Instead of adopting British culture and enriching it by bringing in their influences from other parts of the world, which has always been a *good* thing, some immigrants and their children born here want to reject British culture and live here under their *own* culture, with their own schools, their own communities, even their own laws. Clearly this is not a good thing. It can only lead to lack of understanding, lack of tolerance and ultimately to conflict.
We need people who are prepared to fit in with our existing culture and values, not live here in little isolated islands of their own. We should make religiously segregated schools illegal - It's a foregone conclusion that segregated schools lead to a segregated society.
The USA are far from perfect but if you want to become a US citizen then you have to meet certain minumum requirements, for example having an adequate grasp of English, and that has to be a good thing. We should adopt the same kind of arrangements here. There should be no entitlement to special privileges or special treatment on account of ethnic origin, religious beliefs etc. - i.e. no exceptions for people who claim that they cannot abide by the rules that everyone else has to follow, on account of their culture or religion. That sort of thing is divisive and leads to resentment.

America was once called "the melting pot of Europe." - this was in the days of Al Capone. Then, of course, we have the biblical Tower of Babel.....
Not a constructive answer really is it? ..... but then, it is not multiculturalism destroying Britain - Its the way the government mis-rules our country & also mis-spends our tax money.... that's creates the problems....... If you follow my thoughts..... If Martini reads this - he will understand.

Afraid so. It might have been a good idea at the turn of the century to give all these people British passports, but boy are we paying for it now. I blame politicians like George Galloway. They are not interested in the true British person, all they care about is votes, the more votes the more money for them.

we need to learn to be more tolerant to other cultures, and i think the influx of polish and romanian in this country at the moment is a good thing in the respect its forcing us to all get along with people we would otherwise never meet or know .If they are here to work and help this country and themselves they desrve the chance that they are obviously not getting in there own country.
