My mother in law is turning 50 this year. I bought her tickets to go see her favorite singer in concert in October. (Eric Clapton) I got her as close to the floor as possible, because it's always been her dream to see him up close.

I will be 48 this year. I love to get pajamas. Any way shape or form. Soft ones. My son got me silverware for Mother's day and I love it. It is the first time I have had all matching pieces. Not real silver. Oneida brand. Came in it's own organizer. I like to get things that I need and will use. My daughter gave me a photo album already done. Which was great since I dislike putting albums together. Also got a nice robe that is super soft. I like candles. Body wash. loofahs. I am asking for a carpet cleaner this year and new bathroom rugs. Also want that Suzanne Sommers facial toner. Some kind of machine to help wrinkles. Hope this gives you some good ideas.

Get her some really nice, flattering and not old person styled lingerie. It will make her feel great as it will say you are still feminine and young and 50 means nothing. I know this seems really odd but think about it from the other side. When you turn 50 do you want something that underlines the belief that you are past it and on the down or something that says life is still good and there is fun to be had? When I turn 50 I'd be delighted to get something youthful and saucy but would be upset to get granny stuff or things for the soon to be retired!

If she lives in the Northern Territory then you and I both know she lives in a different world....

If she lives away from Darwin then you could pay for a week in Darwin at a nice apartment for her to get some city living... for a change...

If she lives in Darwin you could buy her a ticket to come visit you...

You could give her a some thing new to do that she has never tried..... a new hobby or craft... try something really different...

think about who your mum is and really consider her likes and dislikes and try to choose a gift that says I really thought about this...

Well, you must know your mum fairly well, so you must know what her dreams are. I liked the idea of the tickets to a concert.

Or maybe take her to a 10 days holliday in some fancy hotel on the beach or mountains. Go shopping with ehr and you pay for everything.

find good looking photos of everyone your mom loves and make them into a slide show with her favorite music, load on a disc, pop into the mail and give her a gift to watch when ever she needs some memories. if you can, burn a DVD for the TV has a bigger screen for viewing faces and she will know the remote controls already. Hope this helps

You could send her a big bouquet of her favorite flowers and a poem or letter, telling her how much you appreciate and love her. Or you could go to a photographer and have your picture taken and send it to her. How is she fixed for life? Does she live on a small income? If so, you could send her some stamps and stationery, plus have some meat shipped to her. This would help her out alot and show that you care about her well-being.

Hope you have time. buy a photo album and have all the family write, draw, enter photos and celebrate your mum,s 50th by recalling the past on each page. Leave the first page for yourself and tell her how much you love her and why...

Something personal...a video of you and your family, a photo album of memories you would both treasure...or if you have time and/or talent...have each member of your family (you can extend it as far as you want...aunts, neices, etc.) draw on a piece of fabric something that reminds them of your mum. Have the pieces sewn into a quilt for her (or do it yourself if you can). She will have a wonderful trip down memeory lane everytime she covers up. Good luck and Happy Birthday to Mum!

A nice letter from you telling her what a great mom she is and add lots of little stories you remember about the two of you. Include lots of love and appreciation for her. There is no better gift to a mother. I am one, I had one and miss her.

It's my Mom's 50th too and we are planning a surprise party for her!!!! If I was you I would go to http://www.personalizationmall.com
It's a nice site with a lot of thoughtful gifts and they have gift delivery too. I got my mom a heart shaped crystal plaque and you can have your own personal message engraved on it. They have tons of stuff there for every occasion. :)
