Any dog will be loyal as they only know what they are taught. So you have to learn how to train a dog. There are books and videos.I have had huge dogs Great Dane Bull mastiffs Saint Bernard's Australian Shepard's.I find the larger the dog the more they depend on their size as a deterrent but are fierce to anyone out side the family circle.Depends on what you want out of a dog.
My favorite is a big lovable lap dog

As a VERY proud Boxer owner,
I have to tell the truth and admit I think it's Golden Retrivers. Their only purpose in life is to make their owners happy. It's part of how they were bred.

Akita. Read a book about them. They are loyal and great with kids. They are trust worthy and they will protect you and your family. They also sense how you feel about someone.

Labrodors are loyal and safe. They age well and grow to be quite old. they work hard and are easy to keep their short hair clean.
