SAP Stands for System Application and products for data processing.It is an ERP ( Enterprise Resource Planning ) system which connect all the functionals areas of an organisation tightly.
SAP s/w package which can process and organise the data of a large organisation. SAP originated from IBM where SAP R/2 was implemented in 1978 it was confined to *IBM for many year then 5 top most employee resigned from IBM and Gave birth to SAP AG inc. which is a R/3( R-real time).
There Are many software available in the market:
SAP ,Oracle Apps, BAAN ,PeopleSoft, etc
these are very famous.
SAP-its is hottest in the market and is a product of SAP AG , a germany based company, it best sofware pakgage but also costly to implement.Its main customisation language is ABAP( Advance Business Application Language) .Its 4GL language.
It is strong in almost every part of organisation.
Oracle Apps- this package is of Orcale. Strong in Finance.
Peoplesoft- strong in Human Resource manegement System
Baan-strong in SD(Sales and Distribution).

Business application connecting thro' NET an organisation's various functions being performed at different locations, synchronised at a central place called server.

All the branch offices are clients. HR & Supply chain are examples of the applications running in SAP.
