I had two NTFS partitions on my hdd and had winXP installed. due to slow performance i formatted c: from windows 98 setup disc(big mistake, i think) and installed windows 98. But the drive d: (other NTFS partition) didnt show up in windows explorer in win98 - then i came to know that win98 doesnot support NTFS system and upgraded to winXP. but again i didnt see d: . I chose only to format ONE partition in win98 setup - and that was c:\ .... can anyone tell me what could be the problem \ mistake and what can i do to access the other partition -d drive?i have a presario m2000 laptop so attaching hard disk to another machine is not passible... i have some important data there... (yes i know im a jackass)

you can find all the partitions of the harddisk (including formated and unformated) in storage manager.

Right click on My computer
select manage
select disk manager.

Man, first YOU´RE NOT a jackass because all of us started from finding solutions for our own mistakes...

And now, try to get some blank cd-r´s or dvd-r´s, and then use some software like "ontrack easy recovery" looking forward to recover those apparently missing files -you´re gonna realise that the program CAN make them visible and then recover them.

Once you recovered your treasures, make a hard disk formattion process from scratch, and FOR GOD´S SAKE don´t you ever ever ever mix different operative systems if you don´t know EXACTLY what you´re doing (consider the use of tools like "Partition Magic" that is very easy to use)

Marcelo.
