Sometimes you learn more from watching people than you learn from listening to them, listen to your tunes, watch and relax.

I think you already know its rude, but here's a real question-- why do you go to the meeting at all? If I don't need to listen to anything going on in a meeting, I don't go to that meeting. Having your mp3 player on shows everyone in the room that they are not important or worth your time. I guess you're not looking for a promotion of any kind in the near future!

Yes. You should stop listening to mp3 player when in meeting. Just imagine you are seriously talking to somebody and he is paying least attention. It irritates the other people. You may not be missing anything but you are sending a wrong signal that you are not very serious / least interested, about the matter. This is what I think.

Well, my opinion is if you have something that actually distracts you from real work, it can only be a good thing.
Like computers with Internet is a god send for me..... (Whats that, i should be typing some boring invoice and not be faffing on here?? Nah)
Anyway - keep listening to your mp3 player. If I could get away with it, I would. And people watching is a life skill. Sort of....

That depends if you want to be totally passive and don't care, or if you want to participate actively, and show that you can be a good player.
If anybody on my team was listening to music during meeting, s/he would not be on my team any longer.

I don't blame you for wanting to just watch. I like tv commercials without the sound. As far as edict goes.....of course if you are part of the meeting you should at least act like you are with the group and give your full attention. Unless you just don't care.

If you've missed nothing so far, its unlikely to change in the future............not a very exciting or forward thinking company you work for tho if you've never missed anything!!!

The people you're meeting with are far more important than your personal pleasure needs. Don't be a rude fukking asshole. Respect people!
