As a photographer you will have a fantastic time in Sukhothai. I live in Thailand and went there last year to write a travel article about the place - it's pretty spectacular.

As a previous poster has said, Ayuttaya is also great, but there are lots of places in Bangkok that are worth photographing - Grand Palace, Wat Po, the view from Vertigo (Asia's highest open air bar) and definitely the Klong Tour, where you can see the families still living on what's left of Bangkok's canals.

I recently wrote an article that gives a quick overview of different things to see and do in Thailand - it might be useful for you

Hi, if you are interested in ancient cities and ruins, there will be a few places that you can head for to take your pictures. There are quite a few sites spread around the country and you just need to plan your route.

I can suggest the following:

Your arrival to Bangkok, nearby will be the ancient city of Ayutthaya. There are a few sites in the city where the ruins lie. So do be ready to move around.

From there, you can take a aircon coach northeast to Buriram where Phanom Rung is. This is a majestic Khmer capital in the old days and its location will tell you why this was chosen.

Nearby in Korat is Phimai, a smaller Khmer style city. You can also take great picture there.

From there, head to the north where Sukhothai is. There are 2 major sites there with ruins spread over an area, so you will need to spend quite a bit of time. There is Sukhothai Historical Park and Si Satchanalai Historical Site, about 100km between the 2 parks.

From there, nearby province of Kkamphaeng Phet, there is also a historital site from Suknothai era.

Also nearby province of Petchabun is the ancient city of Si Thep. Hundreds of ruins too.

Head south to Kanchanaburi to the ancient city of Muang Sing in Sai Yok. More relics for you.

Need any more, email me.

I recomend ko samet. There is a little cove around the bend, you take a boat, from ko samet beach. You can get a bamboo bungalo with ocean view for like 5 dollars per day. At night you can go to ko samet beach and party like its 1999, or some other such party year.
There are great diving opportunities and there is a relaxed attitude towards vegitation of a particular nature.

Try some of the unspoiled areas and islands near Ranong. If you like excl. temples - they are all places, then find some who is more rare. If you have a couple of weeks - then spend 150$ and take the 30 min fly to Siem Reap in Cambodia, and the 20 min taxi to Angkor Wat - one of the worlds seven wonders.
Because to visit the neighbor countries is soooo cheap incl. staying there also. Don't be afraid.....catch your dreams....

You just have to go to Phuket and take a walk down Bangla road, especially at night. It's an eye opener.
