As a Christian, I do not feel they are right in making such claims. If such claims were true, every Christian would be living as those people, comfortable. Comments!

While Luther was burning Papal Bulls, and skipping the Diet of Worms, protesting at Pontiffs saying you could buy you way into heaven,

Calvin was preaching all this rot about how some had places reserved in Heaven.

It was from Calvin that the Protestant Work Ethic evolved - and now Evangelical and Born Again Christianity.

I guess Catholicism learnt it's lessons somewhere down the line, but true it is that worldwide there is little of Jesus in Christianity.

Hey Science_geek,

People (usually faith teachers) who teach this sort of thing usually twist Scripture - so the first thing to do would be to understand how they are misinterpretting the Scripture and point that out to them as well as to others. Expose them for the false prophets that they are.

They will have to answer to Christ one day.

i think the easiest answer i have to this sort of theology is that if God had intended all of us to be rich and be comfortable (then look at Jesus)- he was poor, born into such humble beginnings and yet the very premise of Christianity is for all believers to be Christ-like. He taught on the dangers of wealth and the love of it. And in fact in Timothy teaches to be careful of teachers who are obssessed with wealth.

Biblically speaking their claims are not supported. Yes God is generous and will often bless people financially, but his promise of blessing is of HIs presence, help, guidance.

Hope that helps,

Nickster

"Give and it shall be given you, pressed down, shaken together, running over shall men give into your bosom." and
"As you sow, so shall you reap" is what the Bible says.
I believe God looks at the heart. If you only give to get, it is wrong. But if you "give as unto the Lord" (also in the Bible) I believe He will reward you, maybe not always in money or in material things but in the things you need. I have personally seen God come through for me many a time. An open hand that gives is bound to receive. Sometimes it's the way preachers do it that offends, though, right? God bless you my brothers and sisters.

Convince people not to send money to them. Those people are predators and they will continue to prey on the weak. I doubt this problem will go away. People are stupid and they will believe what they are told especially when it comes from someone in the political or religious arena.

The only way to remove them is to not send them money and make sure no one else does either.

its not all about giving;

Mat 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

give 10% to your church (or a little more just to be sure) and that's all God asks. Besides most of their programs are filled with asking for offerings anyways, you don't hear many good things.

They'll have to pay a toll when they get to Heaven. And have correct change.

Kidding, there should be a special place in Hell for them. Using God to make money from people who probably can't afford to give it away is despicable.

They hide behind the legal description of a church. That makes it difficult to interfere.

I am sickened when I hear about these cases where they'll literally steal some senior citizen's entire nest egg - because they wanted their health to improve, so they sent the money to one of those guys.

It is a bother. But take heart, and know that all has been forseen. You ask what shall be done? Read, Matthew, Chapter 7, verses 21 -- 23, and you'll have your answer.

Tax them. If religious organizations in America were taxed equally to any other organization they would single handedly wipe out the national deficit. They might also go bankrupt. Either way I win.

No different than Scientology mocking the world of religions. I might as well make another religion myself called the "assology", where we worship "as$". Oh there will be money offered.
