Century 21 is the closest thing to outlet shopping in New York. They have EVERYTHING at good prices, but its sometimes hit or miss. It is HUGE, and sometimes unbelievably crowded. Be prepared to spend a lot of time and be slightly overwhelmed by people, and clothing.
Its also right across the street from Ground Zero if you were planning to see that too. You just take the train to the World Trade Center

hmmm... how i wish i pack myself with u and mom!! hahah.. anyway, the whole stretch of manhattan has alot of good shops. The 5th Avenue.. just walk along, you will see branded shops..and in no time you will be carrying loads of stuff. Must go to Macy's and if possible go to factory outlets. I dont know where is it in Manhattan, but i went to the one at Long Island. I was a tourist there from Singapore. Enjoy ur shopping.

If you really want to go to outlets, you can take a train or bus out to Tanger Outlets in Riverhead, on Long Island. Great selection of outlet stores and great prices - worth a day trip out of Manhattan. Have fun!

Woodbury Commons Premium outlets is a little more than an hour from NYC - exit 17 off Route 87 North in Harriman. (I can drive from here to the GW bridge in 45 minutes.) There's hundreds of stores - Polo, Escada, Dolce & Gabbana, and others.

you might find some affordable spots in the city, but in my own experience everything in Manhattan is just outrageously overpriced.
And in NY they tax clothing purchases.
FYI - New Jersey doesn't tax clothing and there are some lower-priced places to shop. Seacaucus still has some outlets. I believe Jersey Gardens Mall has outlets as well.
If you are planning to spend a good amount of money it might be worth your effort to go to Jersey just to avoid sales taxes.

hmm...there are not really outlets in NYC. If you wanna go to an outlet, go upstate to Woodbury. It's fantastic! It's like bigger than a mall with a bunch of great shops like Puma, Claire's, etc. and trust me, if you find a designer shop, the prices, compared to the city, it's wayyy cheaper! Here are some places you can go to: http://www.frommers.com/destinations/newyorkcity/21_indshop.html

If you are looking for true outlet shopping (i.e. cheap name brand stuff) don't bother with NYC. If you are looking for true retail items through the named stores, then NYC is great. Plan on bringing a lot of money, and after you plan on how much you are going to bring, double it. NYC is expensive to shop and stay. But its a great place to visit and shop.

Go to Houston or Phoenix for shopping. The prices are cheaper there and the selection is as good or better than New York.

Woodbury Commons, about an hour outside the city. There are buses leaving from the city several times a day for a reasonable price. I think you can Google for more info.
