Why is it that a penis looks really small (sometimes completely "hidden") when flacid, but it can reach a very "normal" size when erect?

My research and experience suggest there are two kinds of penises--those that are the same length erect as flaccid, and those that are much shorter flaccid than erect. You can check it out yourself to be convinced.
