Either language is fine. Just teach me how to say the basic everyday things. It would be good if you taught me how to speak a couple of sentences just so I can communicate better with my grandparents and my family members in the Philippines.

Well, I know I can just search over on the internet but what I really want is a personal tutor that can teach me how to speak Filipino.

One practical and economical way to learn how to speak Tagalog is to read comics, newspapers, publications and other written materials that are in Tagalog. Be sure that you have an English - Tagalog dictionary at hand to help you translate those words you could not comprehend. A friend who speaks the dialect well would come in handy as well while reading those papers.
