I am working hard to get in shape. Please, anyone considering answering, don't point out the obvious that you should be in shape before you go. I'm sure I'll do fine, I'm just wondering what happens. Again, please don't be mean or rude. Thank you.

It's not that uncommon for a new troop to not measure up to PT (Physical Training) standards. When I went into boot camp there were many girls (and guys) who were unable to complete the run in the allotted time. They also couldn't accomplish the number of sit -ups and push-ups required. The Drill Sergeants expect it. That's one reason why they push so hard. Generally by the third week you are doing things physically that you never thought you could! For those who just can't seem to preform up to standard, they can be made to do extra exercises and placed on a diet. Then at the end of trainig there is a final test. If you are still unable to pass, they either start you over or put you out of the military. By the second failure you can pretty much guarantee a discharge. Hope that answers your question!
Best of luck to you!!!

When you first arrive to your training battalion, you will have to endure reception. In reception you will do a pt test. If you cannot pass they put you in a platoon of trainees who do pt all day until you pass. I highly doubt anyone gets sent home like the others suggested. The Army needs everyone they can get. BTW, the pt in basic is easy, mostly calisthenics and stretching. The physical activities that get you in shape are the hours upon hours of being "smoked" in the sand pit and evey where else the drill sergeants deem necessary. You have made the big decision and you need to man up and be able to pass the test before you go. It will make your life easier and somewhat less stressful. Congrats on your decision to join.

You have to meet a certain standard before they will let you go. If you are on the edge, they will work with you to improve your fitness level.

There are some remedial groups once you get there, which are entire platoons of people who need to get in better shape before they will allow you to move on.

In the army they have a pt platoon. You are giving a pt test When you first get to the processing center. if you fail but almost pass they will put you in the pt platoon, however you must be showing improvement to stay in. if you dont your out. Once you can pass the pt test then your sent to basic training.

I can't speak for all branches, but I can speak for the Army. When you arrive at basic training you have to go through in-processing before you actually go to your company. If you fail the minimum standard while you are at in-processing then you are sent home. If you pass minimums then you go to your company. You are given two PT test at basic. If you fail the first one then you are placed on remedial PT training, but if you fail the second then you are sent home.

You'll be given another shot to pass your physical so you can continue on with your troop, but, if you fail, seriously they will leave you there until you pass your physical.
