Can I catch these by kissing? What about in the cafeteria they use metal forks and glass plates and glass drinking glasses can I catch it off those? I'm a hypocondriac and I just don't want to get hep b or meningitis. I am taking the first hep b shot Friday but I know that won't keep me from getting it. Any suggestions would be great on how to prevent getting these till I can get all the shots taken.

Heb B is generally thought of as a sexually transmitted disease, although I think it might be theoretically possible to get it from kissing or such. But mainly it's just sex or dirty needles.

Meningitis you can get not only from kissing, but also from sharing food or drinks. I think the cafeteria forks are pretty safe, but sharing a soda with your friend might do it. Doctors usually recommend that kids get a meningitis shot before going off to college because the close quarters of a college dormitory make transmission more likely.

The bottom line is just get the shots. Don't share food, and don't kiss anyone who's sick and you should be fine. You only need on Meningitis shot before you go, and you're certainly not going to get Heb B just from sharing a soda, so don't worry too much. Oh, and don't do IV drugs (or if you do, don't share needles) or get any tattoos from really sketchy places.

PS. Meningitis is NOT airborne, and Heb B is NOT particularly associated with unclean conditions.

don't let boys touch you in the special way =-p .....seriously meningitis is tough to catch but its a virus and hep b is just from stuff or people being dirty so if the lunch lady is looking grimy I would say eat somewhere else
