The MB C280 without any doubt!

If the C280 is a 1998 or earlier, it will have the 2.8 inline-6 cyl, which is a very durable engine. For 1999 and later models, the displacement remained the same at 2.8 liters, but the engine was totally new; a more complicated and less-durable V-6 which is probably good for only around 150K miles...a result of M-B taking control of the company away from the engineers and giving it to the marketing department.

Generally the Mercedes built before 1995 are very durable, many running many 100K miles. Post-1995 models may be nicer looking, but are not as well built, and will cost more to maintain. M-B is working to restore their reputation for reliability and durability, which has mainly been the result of rushing products to market without adequate testing, particularly of the operating software.

The Subaru may not be as good looking, but will likely be a more durable and less-expensive car to own. Subaru is the only automaker except Porsche to use horizontally-opposed (or flat) engines which are very powerful and durable. Depending on whether your looking for a new or used car, try out the Legacy GT, XT, or R model if you want an especially German driving feel.
The Subaru's also benefit from all-wheel-drive as standard equipment.

Sadly for MB, the Subaru is considerably more reliable. For basic durability the Benz will probably win out 15 years down the road but it will be relatively expensive getting there.

Legacy is more reliable. You could also consider an Acura TSX since it's around 27-29 K.
