first of all what type of punches are you doing?
if they're western style boxing/kickboxing/muay thai punches than here's what you can do to help make them more effective..
first of all, the correct way to make a fist - knuckles aligned, front of the fist should also be flat, no protrudeing knuckles etc., you can break your knuckle if you try to punch with them like that. punches should be from the flat part of your fist, which is the section between your first knuckle and your second knuckle coming up from your hand out to your fingertips. thumb should be folded to the side, if it's tucked under the fingers or over the fingers you can break your thumb..
when throwing a punch your fist should always be palm down and parallel to the floor unless its an uppercut or an overhand punch..
we'll give an example to condense this explination..
the straight right.. to harness as much power from this punch as possible you need to get the body behind the punch.. so, as you throw out the punch, you simultainiously pivot the back foot so that the motion of the hip pivoting is behind the punch giving it extra power..
remember, if someone punches the bag and it swings wildly, all they're doing is pushing around a bag, what you want to go for is internal damage, so if you punch the bag and all it does is bounce, you know that the impact is felt within not just thrown around..

Insure that you are properly punching first, do not punch for speed or power initially. Make sure your punches are technically correct that your feet are well grounded that you are not only putting your upper body into the strike but also using your legs and hips to send the power through your arm. Like others have said never bend your arm all the way but punch through your target don't let your punch stop on an object because you make contact continue the force of your punch through the object until you have reach the proper technique for the punch.
Another valuable thing you can do is take Tai Chi, it was surprising to me how much better my martial arts became after I started studying Tai Chi. Tai Chi is slow because it builds your inner strength and teaches control. When you do a form as slow as you will in Tai Chi every little mistake is amplified as you move to place a foot and realize that your balance is not sound because you are wobbling on your other foot. Try a begginers course in Tai Chi for 6-8 weeks and take it seriously and you will notice a difference in whatever other form you are studying.

Form and Technique find a form taht utilises your fist the best. Once your form and follow through are perfected ide recomend to use weights. Start with a three pound weight with 30 minutes if shadow boxing with all your skills. That go 15-30 minutes on a bag you will notice your speed increase automatically however you will revert back to normal after a while. But after trainign a long time with the weights they begin to feel really light so you have to rank up weights move to five pound weights than.
Repetion. A good way to build up muscle memory and ultimately increase your punchign speed. If you keep repeatign the punch you hand will want to be in that place and remember how to do it and what msucles to use. Practice,practice, practice.
Stretching. Stretch as much as possible it makes your swign wider and you punches tighter its over all better. If you do all this already than good jon keep training thats all you can do is train with weights heavier ones to get better. Good luck on your endeavour

Get in a even stance, with bent knees feet about shoulder width. Punch from chest out with a snap at the end, but do let your arm recoil at the end of each punch. fist must be vertical, not horizontal, and punch with the bottom three knuckles, tucking the thumb.
Do 100 each side three times a day for a year.

Most of the people answered the question for you but you can also workout your forearms, power isn't just in the upper part of your arms. Put your hips into it but it all depends on what kind of punch you are doing.

one way is when you punch don't fully extend your elbow! when you do that you lose power. when you make contact never have your arms completely straight if they are it takes longer to punch again and when you use your punching bag don't use gloves! tape your hands but not too much so you don;t rip skin its normal to ripp the skin but you want to Hardin not hurt your self

use your hips when you punch. Proper technique is more important then having big mussels. Also what Adam said about not having your arm fully extended when punching.

O.K it's simple really. when you punch try to hit with your index and middle knuckle. the reason why is that it is strait with the rest of your arm and you'll get more force

Strengthen your core muscles, to give you a great foundation. Then strengthen your lats, which are probably the most developed on boxers, aside from their delts, from keeping their arms up all the time.
