People are pretty stupid, especially in large numbers.

Hindus realized long before Jesus was born that their gods and goddesses were merely representations of psychological urges in every human person.

So the goal of a good myth is to help you be better reconciled with the demands of your emotional life and the times in which you live. The problem is that most religions are simply insufficient to deal with modern issues.

But it's not all religion's fault either. Technology is changing things faster and faster and ever faster. In that kind of situation, it's difficult to compose and distribute an essential myth that reconciles the natural impulses of people with their technological and cultural surroundings. We're left with no essential myth to help guide us through our lives.

What's worse is that many religions have become even more rigid than before by insisting on a literal interpretation of its sacred texts. This only exacerbates the problem and forces religion to become an enemy of science. Ideally, a central myth should be able to take modernity into account, but how often does this seem to be happening nowadays?

Just look at the Taliban in Afghanistan. Before they were scattered, they actually prevented people from listening to any kind of music whatsoever. Can you freaking imagine? These people have taken their sacred texts so literally that the only way it can hold up in the modern world is to call everything in it "of the devil." So no science, no music, no women's education, etc.

That's messed up. If a religion is to help rather than create a schizoid or doublethinky society, it needs to be accommodating of the world as it evolves. The fact that it hasn't been so good at this indicates that the wrong people are running the religions.

If humans evolved from single cells then these would have had to pop into existance as they are. A cell is like a miniture factory, each part of that "simple cell" has a specific job to do. If any component of that cell is taken away to make it more simple, it dies. This is called irreducible complexity, and shows that cell did not "evolve" from a more simpler form, because this is impossible as it would never have got off the ground, because you take any part of it away to make it simpler and it ceases to be, so, it popped into existence as a whole thing with all the components there for it to work, so is this not an act of creation, and if so, it was created by a higher being. Evolution is an un proven theory taught as fact, evolotion is a bit like taking Thomas Eddison out of the equation in the creation of the light bulb then saying how it made itself, over billions of years by mere chance. Obsurd isnt it? It is people who are doing the killing in the middle east, not God, this was forsaw thousands of years ago by the prophets then put into the bible for us to show what will happen so that we are ready for it, its going to get even worse, worse than you can possibaly imagine, so bad that God Himself will intervene, or "no flesh woul be saved."

Sorry so many dougebags gave you such terrible answers. As a firm believer in thought manifestation, I believe that it is we who create gods, possibly out of a psychological need or desire. And yes, since gods reflect the cultures they come from, it is more a war of people to which the gods are reflected opon and in-turn influence the people. So, gods can better be described as collective belief, which fight only because the people do.

The concept of God came thousands of years ago - it was the next step of worshiping Stones, Sun and the moon - the worshiping of unknown forces and mythical beings - God is an imagination in the human mind. It is high time that the world comes to reality !

Personally, I am an athiest, however, so long as you live your life respecting others and their beliefs, no matter how off the scale you believe they are. My own view is that the scientific and circumstantial evidence is too overpowering for me to have faith in any 'supreme being'.

I'm a bit of an Occam's Razorist (The simplest explanation is usually the correct one)

to the person that asked this question and the people that answered it.
If you live like there is no God really and you truly believe that small fact then I feel sorry for you. God the Father created us in his likeness he gave his only son for our wrong doing. Yes there are many different believes but only one way to heaven. If you beleive there is no God you'd better be right. Cause what comes next is not pretty a lot of suffering for unbelievers. I will pray for all of you that you find the Good Lord Jesus Christ before time runs out. Good night and God bless all of you even the unbelievers.

there is only 1 true God. The rest are idols. The real God is the one in the Holy Bible. People didn't make it up. Even people who have been discovered in remote parts of the world worship a higher being. It is a part of being human to have a hole in your heart which only God can fill.
People die in wars because the earth is full of sin and the devil is loose in the world. Soon when time as we know it ends, the devil will be tossed into hell and the new heaven and earth will be perfect.
