A mother has three sick children. She has a 24-ounce bottle of medicine and needs to give each child eight ounces of the medicine. She is unable to get to the store and has only three clean containers, which measure 5, 11 and 13 ounces. The electricity is out and she has no way of heating water to wash the containers and doesn't want to spread germs. How can she divide the medicine to give each child an equal portion without having any two children drink from the same container?

you can't measure any other measurement besides the full amount of each measuring device

Say:
Bottle (24oz.)
A=Container measure 13oz.
B=Container measure 11oz.
C=Container measure 5oz.
Initially:
Bottle=24; A=0; B=0; C=0
Fills A to rim:
Bottle=11; A=13; B=0; C=0
From A, she fills C:
Bottle=11; A=8; B=0; C=5
Empties C in B:
Bottle=11; A=8; B=5; C=0
From A, she fills C:
Bottle=11; A=3; B=5; C=5
Pours A over B:
Bottle=11; A=0; B=8; C=5
She gives B to child#1.
She's left with:
Bottle=11; A=0; C=5
Returns content of C to Bottle:
Bottle=16; A=0; C=0
Fills A to rim:
Bottle=3; A=13; C=0
From A, she fills C:
Bottle=3; A=8; C=5
She gives A to child#2.
She's left with:
Bottle=3; C=5
Returns content of C to Bottle:
Bottle=8; C=0
She gives Bottle to child#3.

Fill the 5 and the 11. What remains in the 24 is 8 ounces. Pour the 5 into the 13. Use the 11 to completely fill the 13. from the 13, fill the 5. What remains in the 13 is 8 ounces. Pour the 5 into the 11. There's 8 ounces in the 11. Have the children drink from the 11, 13 and 24 ounce containers.

She puts 8 ounces in the 13-ounce, and gives one child the medicine, then puts 11 ounces in the 11-ounce bottle, and gives another child the 8-ounces of medicine, then puts the last 5-ounces in the 5-ounce, and gives the last child 5-ounces of medicine, then opens the 11-ounce container, pours the last 3-ounces in the 5-ounce container, and gives the last child the last 3-ounces, without spreading any germs. I hope this is right! :]
I'm editing then. You put 13-ounces in the thirteen ounce, 11-ounces in the 11-ounce, give them each their 8-ounces, pour the remaining five, in the five ounces, then give the last child that, then the last three, since its not measuring, its just the last of the medicine, in the f-ounce, and give it to the last child. Is that right? :]

its not so clear. first yu say that ther are 3 clean containers and then theres no water to clean the containers..
so can you use those 3 containers?
if so use 11 and 13 containers to put 8 oz in each and give 2 children and let the other child drink from the bottle.

1st step: fill in the clean container 13oz and 11oz with medicine
2nd step: fill in the 5oz container using the medicine in the 13oz and what is left is 8oz medicine in the 13oz container and give it to the 1st child then
3rd step: fill in the empty 13oz container with 5oz medicine and
4th step: fill in the 13oz container by pouring medicine from 11oz container which will left you 3oz from the 11oz container
5th step: fill the empty 5oz container with medicine from the 13oz container and
6th step: add the 5oz medicine in the 11oz container that contains 3oz medicine to have a total of 8oz medicine and gave to the 2nd child
7th step: the 3rd child drinks the remaining 8oz medicine from the 13oz container
