Early Church historians wrote of a work called, "The Sayings of Christ", which they claim was used by the early Messianic Jews (not Christians) at Jerusalem, circa 45 A.D. Most modern secular historians believe that this now missing document, i.e., "The Sayings of Christ", was the primary source that the Gospel writers referenced when quoting Yeshua.
We must keep in mind that the only Bible used by Christ and the apostles was the Tanakh. I believe that the Bible's message is 100% perfect and pure, but I do not regard it as an infallible piece of literature. The Gospels alone are riddled with minor discrepancies.
As for the language issue...any works produced in the area of Judaea would have certainly been written in Aramaic. Such works include the Gospel of Matthew, the Epistle of James, and the Epistle of Jude. Works produced in Antioch, Greece, Rome, Egypt, and elsewhere would most definitely have been written in Greek.
An important clue to canonicity is the matter of "contradiction". If a document's information contradicts existing info within the canon, that contradictory work will be thrown out and deemed illegitimate. Such is the case with the Apocrypha used by Catholic and Orthodox Christians. Many, if not all, of the works within the Apocrypha contain information, whether chronologic, geographic, historic, or dogmatic, that contradicts confirmed information within the Biblical Canon. The same goes for all other outside works, e.g., the Gospel of Thomas, etc.
Essentially, what we have is what we have. We should focus mostly upon the Tanakh and the teachings of Christ. What the disciples wrote is important and is a good moral guide, but it is not tantamount to the Words of God. Remember, they weren't prophets; they were students and teachers. Their words are not God's words; they are simply divinely inspired.

The true, God-inspired, books of the Bible are all there. What people are coming up with now and claiming as God's word is another scam. And because most of us will admit we don't know enough about God's word to debate these new theories, we tend to just accept them as true. If you study the Bible in the original Hebrew and Greek, things will make so much more sense to you, and it IS truly the truth!!!! God bless you!

i assume the different respondents are not conscious of the Coptic Church or the Othodox Church. they are, possibly, additionally, unaware that the Scriptures have been cannonized until now the papists won administration of the western church. whilst the e book of Isiah became translated from the ineffective Sea Scrolls the only variations between the classic texts and modern-day translations have been some punctuation marks (jots and tittles). Who made the ideas with reference to the Holy word of God? God. of direction. it somewhat is His e book.

vivek k,
I think that the Book of Enoch was up for election. Then, Revelation was the one chosen.
Personally, I think we could have done without James, but oh well.
The Book of Enoch was lost to history, then I think that it was in the 1800's that it was found again in Eithiopia.
I will leave you with a good Apocrypha, etc. site.
