buy a prepaid sim card or if the phone is a landline (homephone) buy phonecards. Also ask the about the special packages. eg some offer that if you call any mobile after 8pm for 10 minutes free! look around!

I totally understand where you are coming from. I have a boyfriend in R.O. Ireland and I am in UK, the bills are hugh each month, but then I weigh up the pros and cons.. ok, so its costing me a fortune, but I am keeping in touch with the man I LOVE, that is so worth it.
However, if you are both connected to the internet on broadband or similar, get a web cam or mic, you can chat away for hours on MSN and it doesn't cost you a penny.

I really dont understand this obsession, but I'm not judging. If You have an "Addiction" to Long distance phone calls then you need to fight it starting at the beginning. If you have a Landline, get it so you can only make national calls. Just contact your provider. get the cheapest offer you can from mobile providers. There are add-ons you can get. But the main thing.. Dont call someone unless they have called you and its necessary.
