I've seen them in 1982 GM's. mostly camaro,and firebird. a buddy seen them in 1984 Dodge/Chrysler cars (he worked at dealership).
The ford training center I went to said they were in use as early as 1979(late).
Basically any car that has a computer has an event logger ie.when a new car has been driven over 80 mph and that voids the warranty
