I know a breeder of Cocker Spaniels and I was wondering if she sold a puppy and the person who bought the puppy turned it into a shelter would the breeder be notified?

She did contact the breeder and first said that the dog bit her child, then said she bit her. Now shes saying her daughter is attached to the dog, and wants to think it over until the weekend, and if she gives her back her daughter wants to visit. We're just trying to make sure the dog isnt put into a shelter that may put her to sleep, or be found a home where she wont get updates on how the dog is. My friend will more then gladly take the puppy back but doesnt want to sound to pushy to get the dog back, but at the same time doesnt want to sound like she doesnt want her back.

If the puppy was mirco chipped wouldnt the new owners get that changed to match their name and address or does it keep it in records of all the previous owners?

The breeder should check her contract. Most responsible breeders have a "right of first refusal" clause in their contracts. That means that ownership of the dog cannot be transferred to a third party unless the breeder consents. Some contracts won't offer the breeder consent - instead ownership of the dog automatically reverts back to the breeder in the event that the dog is no longer wanted or cared for. If this breeder has a similar clause in her contract then she may have legal recourse to get this dog back. If she doesn't then she needs to add a clause to prevent future situations like this.

Most registerd breeders would have tatooed the ears of the puppy, if not microchipped. If they had not you would have to notify the local animal shelter in the the town where the person lived that she bought the puppy. She could then be notified if that person actually had take the dog there.

You don't mention how old this puppy is so it is hard to say what would happen. But in all cases the animal shelter would try to find a new home for it. It really just sounds like this person needs a little education on how to raise and train a new puppy.

Why would the person buy it and then put it into a shelter? Are you afraid that the person that you know sold someone a dog that wasn't taken care of and is going to get in trouble? Thats what it sounds like to me. If I paid for a dog and decided that I didn't want it or whatever I would try to find another person who would take care of it or see if the breeder would give a refund. Something sounds very fishy to me.

Shelters generally do not want to give a dog back to the breeder. They think the breeder will then use it for breeding which is, of course ridiculous, if the breeder wanted to use it for breeding they would have kept it in the first place.

If they are listed as owners on a microchip, maybe. I would keep your mouth shut about being a breeder though.

Probably not. However some breeders will ask owners to contact them if they are going to get rid of the dog. The breeder will often request them to give the dog back.

Unless the dog was microchipped, the shelter will not know who the breeder is..unless the registration paper is left with the dog..

However, your friend can call all local shelters and ask them to notify her if the dog shows up..

She can find all shelters in the area by going to > http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi

and putting in the zip code or city/state

I dont really see how the shelter would know who the breeder was...most people who turn animals into a shelter dont turn in papers w it.

there is not any such aspect as a "maltepoo" and everybody purposely breeding them is basically ripping you off. it really is only a cutesy call that byb have made up for mutts. in case you want a mutt there are plenty on the shelters and no matter if you discover this style of canines from a byb you'll spend thousands on vet expenditures in the longer time period. learn each and each breed seperately and discover out which an extra desirable helpful suits your existence-style.

Only if the puppy was micro-chipped by the breeder...which it would be if the breeder was at all responsible.
