You could only get to know the person that they want to show you. For all you know, they could be loony tunes or worse! I guess what I'm trying to say is the internet is great & wonderful cause it connect you to anyone BUT, the physical part is not there. In order to have true connection you need intimacy, & a keyboard is not intimate.

Well there is the computer screen and maybe a key board that you would have to dodge.... Just kidding.... In all seriousness the biggest hurdle I have found is.... it is not who you fall in love with it is what you fall in love with. It is simply the idea of meeting your soul mate from a bigger pool of people and maybe finding the perfect match for you that soon presents problems.. God knows if your searching on the net then you have exhausted other resources and are hoping that this is the answer. The difficulties arise when think you have met that perfect mate and start thinking "she/he is too good to be true", or ask yourself "but really on the net?" soon self doubt takes control and you start to second guess yourself, which in turns hinders any real connection between you and them.

I met my wife online. The only hurdles we had to overcome were our first meeting. We both thought we'd be meeting ax murderers. After that it was telling our friends and family. But now 6 years later it seems really silly that we were worried about telling anyone. It doesn't even seem like it matters that much. How you meet is such a small part of your life together, its really very trivial.

trust issues. it is really difficult to trust someone when you are not even sure if you know who they are. go with your instinctual feelings.
also distance. distance is hard for some people.
communication can be hard if you can't find enough time to talk, have trouble telling when one person is joking and end up offended, miscommunications.
these are some big ones, trust is the main one though. you have to trust the person is being honest with you and that is a hard thing to do.

Find out if this person is actually who they say they are. Buy one of those video things so you can see if they are who they say they are. And if it's over the internet, I doubt it's true love.

trust. commitment. it's difficult for me to believe that a person will love me after talkin to me. He could probably be doing the same to another person at the other end of the world.

Distance, and setting limitations on how long you'll stay in the relationship if you don't get to make it 'real' very easily.
