A C-arm is basically an xray machine on wheels. It is shaped like a C and is used mostly during surgery cases and in ER trauma cases. The C arm can take xrays while the patient is on the table. One side of the C is where the radiation exits and the other side is where the image is captured so you don't have to have any cassettes. With the C-arm, there is also a monitor. The monitor basically is a TV screen where the actual images can be seen. Still images as well as real time xray can be saved.

The key advantage is a low-dosage, live image X-ray, that gives superior visualization for a number of applications, such as:
To assess fractures, remove foreign bodies & hardware, and to help ensure precise localization of intraarticular injections. You can magnify a patient’s anatomy for superior visualization by using the device’s Dual Mode Image Intensifier.

This feature allows you to switch from a 6-inch (15-cm) to a 4-inch (10-cm) field of view. The device’s Mosaic Mode can display (4) updated images, and the image tools let you enhance edges, focus on areas of interest, flip images and zoom in. Also the C-arm is well balanced, and rotates 360 degrees.
