As our technology expands, we are not only able to save species, but we are also able to bring back species. Just awhile ago I was reading a journal on how mammoths DNA was discovered and will likely be produced with modern elephants to make a hybrid species. Our technology will also be able to solve other problems. Our advances in medicine and veterinary have made it possible for homo sapiens and other species to live better and more fullfilling lives.
Global Warming is false by the way. I studied with Stanford-graduate faculty on oceanography, geography, geology, etc. about it, and they all told me there is no body of evidence to conclusively suggest that it is existent. In fact, the hottest day known to man was recorded about 100 years ago, so you can't even bring that into the game.
The world hasn't been filled with trash. In fact, we can recycle many items (almost all if we don't care about economic impact since recycling is sometimes more expensive), and with all the garbage known to exist now and possibly for many more years to come could easily be stored in a very small number of land.
I could go on and on, but I'll leave it at this.

California Condors. We pretty much wiped them out, in our ignorance. When we realised what we were doing, we bred the birds in captivity & re-introduced them into the wild. Now they look to be regaining their niche.
It's just one more awesome (literally) thing about my church - The Grand Canyon. Christians go to their church on Chrismas day - so do I, hiking the unmaintained trails, seeing the unspoiled wilderness & looking up at one of those birds soaring overhead.
Many species change/damage their environment - elephants turn forest into savana. Humans can and sometimes do fix the problem !
A Pantheist & uncertain :-)

You just proved that you don't have to be a Christian to have very little faith in your fellow humans.
I'm Pagan, too. I like being human. We do horrible things. Some of them, we don't mean to be horrible, we mean to go a bit farther a bit faster or to decorate our hats. We also do kind things. We try to correct what we've done wrong.
Oh, and I like angrygramma's assessment that our fossils will help power the next civilization! The Future Is Wild claims that squid may evolve into the next one--they'll be debating about *us*!

What makes you assume destruction is a bad thing? If we object to the creation of values, humanity is not doing something bad to the planet, nor are we doing something good. Rather, we are destroying ourselves over time: whether that's a bad thing or not is for everyone to individually decide.
But I'm agnostic, so what do I know?

Humans are arrogant to believe that we can "help" or "destroy" a planet. "Mother nature" will swing from the current Dansgaard-Oeschger warming event into the next ice age and destroy civilization as we know it. The fossilized remains of our existence will be the next civilization's natural resources.
As God probably intended.

We don't destroy, we create things that destroy.
Hm...some good things we've done?
- Look at the American Red Cross
- We have stopped the Smallpox pandemic in africa, happened in the 1980's or somethign
- Cures for cancer, Penicillin, other modern medicines
The list could go on and on.

Just don't give up on us humans...maybe we've created more harm than good...but we are self destructive...and the day may come soon that we need our overactive survival skills to survive as a species at all...

It was not God's purpose to create us so that we could destroy the planet and ultimately ourselves. God planted the garden of eden, His objective was that all Perfect mankind would live their in good health and happiness and to extend the garden throughout the earth. (see Genesis 1:28; 2:8,9,15)

Because man wasn't made perfect. The moment sin entered earth is when destruction began. God will return soon.
