I am trying to lose weight, and I would really like to know if anyone has a good answer to this. Over the last 2 weeks, I have ridden my bike 66.5 miles. Is that good, too much, or not enough?

i think you can do more. but how many times do you ride per week? as a reference point they say entry level marathon trainers should run 20-40 miles per week. on a bike, you should be able to do 4x that. so that's like 80 - 160 miles a week on a bike.

That's excellent!!! No such thing as too much bike riding if you have the time. Don't get obsessed with anything to the point it messes up other areas of your life. Balance is the key to everything.

Your body will reward you for every mile. Great to hear when someone finds a way to exercise they enjoy!!!

The "not enough" answers are amusing... It's better for you and burns off more calories than watching TV!!!... You feel stronger the more you ride, right??? "Not enough" to be a pro athelete maybe??? Maybe that's not your goal. These people will die too!!! It's all about balance, priorities and choice.

If you eat a little more carefully and exercise more than you have in the past... You'll lose weight and be healthier. You certainly don't have to ride 10 miles a day to gain health benefits from cycling!!! I used to ride a couple miles a day out of necessity and it absolutely helped keep me in shape and burned off some calories. Cycling burns calories and tones muscles. Toned muscles consume more calories.

For the body to begin burning the fat reserve, you need to do cardio for more than 45 minutes. The first 45 minutes, the body is burning the available carbs, and only afterwards does it start to burn fat.

I rode across Kansas, and we would bike about 70 miles per day...with some people biking 100 miles per day. I don't think you are exercising enough to be able to lose weight.

If you really want to lose weight, you should work up to 2 or 3 hours of cardio per day.

Your third meal should be your lightest...eat a big breakfast, a medium-sized lunch, and a small dinner.

Foods that will help you lose weight: dark green leafy vegetables, grapefruit, lemons, parsley, carrots, cinnamon (to control your blood sugar). Stay away from the carbohydrates but be sure and take a fiber supplement like psyllium husk. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day.

This is definately not enough. I run almost that much in 2 weeks. You need to increase the distance. You might want to also increase the pace. You bike should have a speedometer. On a flat surface you should be running near 15 mph or above with a moutain bike and much faster with a road bike. Of course this is just a rough estimate. If you find it too hard, do slow down. Don't hurt yourself. 10 miles per day would be a good start.

The ammount for losing weight isnt how far but how hard. You have to use more calories than you intake to lose wieght. If you eat 4,000 calories a day and only do excersise to burn 1,500 you WILL gain weight. ry eating smaller portions of your regular diet along with the bike riding. This should help tremendously. Also, the results may take up to a month to visible. Stick with it and you will see the change and be very proud.

It's not the miles, it's the time and difficulty.
You need at least 20 minutes a day of cardiovascular exercise(exercise that makes your heart race).
If you can do more than that, great!

At least 1 hour a day. The more the better. You have to not over eat either. Eat healthy.

Here is a better answer. Run instead, don't do the same activity over and over again, or you won't challenge your body anymore.
