The first time I usually hear a soft high pitched whine when it doesn't start, and then the next time or the time after it seems to turn over and start fine generally. I have had the alternator current and the battery strength checked out and both came back fine. I am guessing there is a set of wires that needs replacement, or part of my starter is going bad. What are your thoughts (and qualifications for answering)? The car is a 99 Corolla with over 100,000 miles on it.

well lol lets see who actually gets this......... ill be back in about 20 minutes or so

ok so i waited 10 minutes or so, what sounds like is happening is your bendix drive isnt working correctly. when you hear the whine it isnt meshing with the flexplate (or flywheel) and then after you do it several times it finally works. your starter soleniod is going out. replace the starter.

Get an auto electrician to check out your starter motor,it sounds like the magnetic switch ( solinoid in some countrys) may be faulty

Well I was going to say your timing belt may be off or you need to bang it with a screwdriver.....but that is what happened in my 66....don't know about 99s.

When did 99s become old?

Sounds like a short somewhere to me. Find the noise and you've found your short.
