It kinda depends on what kind of hair you have. Is it fine, straight, is it medium, course, curly???? What KIND of gel have you used?
If your hair is course or wavy, curly...you'd want to put a good leave in conditioner in your hair and then add a good firm gel. (Some gels you get at the store are junk...they don't do squat. I'd get a good one from a salon and make sure they know you want to scrunch!)
One of the secrets is making sure you get the gel worked in evenly from scalp to ends. It takes quite a bit of gel. I'd use like a fifty-cent size dollop and do the front half of your hair. Then go back and get slightly more than you just got and do the back half of your hair. If your hair is longer, then you may need more yet to make sure it is thoroughly applied. Then take a blow dryer on LOW setting, or better yet, use a diffuser on your blow dryer (with high setting) and gently lift a section of hair (no more than what you can hold in your hand ) and wad up your hair (start at the ends and wad up to the scalp). Almost like when you're crunching crackers. Set the blowdryer nozzle at the base of your wad in your hand and blow and squeeze that section, keeping the dryer right there on the wad at your scalp. Keep working the same all over your head. If you want BIG hair do this same technique with your head upside down, and go till your hair is about 90% dry, then flip your hair back over and finish scrunching till it is dry. IF you have a section of hair that needs a little more oooomph, wad up the section up to your scalp, heat the section up, and then use the cool shot button on your dryer and cool down the section (or pull dryer away and just hold and gently squeeze the section till it has cooled a bit. This will help to "set" the "curl". Good luck...hope this helps. I've done this on clients and they are amazed at how it looks like they just got a perm. It's pretty cool!
IF your hair is fine and somewhat straight, I've seen the Nioxin Volume and Texture Creme do some amazing scrunching on gals who have straight hair and want it to look curly/wavy. Use the same exact technique described above, but in this situation, the product used really makes a huge difference!

Okay ive done this so many times its really easy! First make sure you take a shower right before doing it so your hair is damp. Dry as you usually do but only with a toowel no dryer!! then while still damp brush it or whatever you do. And then just scrunch it up. Do it for a while and to all of your hair. Now first apply gel but be generous!!! Apply alot and all over specially in front and back. While applying the gel keep scrunching. then apply some mousse (alot 2 and keep scrunching) Then finally apply spray (pantene is really good) on bottom and top of hair. you'llbe alittle sticky but it'll be perfect!!!

I do it all the time. The trick is to work with wet hair. Do not put too much gel or hairspray. After applying the gel on wet hair; using your fingertips, you scrunch or squeeze your hair gently and style. Try not to use a comb. But if you must, make sure the teeth are big and wide apart.

If your hair is bone straight, then it will not look good scrunched. But if you have somewhat of a wave, I'd suggest using Ausse Sprunch Spray. Right after you wash it, while its still wet, start grabbing the ends and squeeze to your scalp, spray with the Aussie every so often...not too much though...you wouldn't want to look like you're wearing a helmet :)

I re-apply my conditioner after towel drying like a leave in treatment, then use a straightening serum mixed with a shine serum, then I apply a curling lotion like Noodle Head from Sally's to scrunch. Scrunching requires you to not brush through your hair after you have applied all the product and to apply the last product while scrunching. I let mine air dry in front of a room fan on medium while I paint my toes. Environment is number one frizzer.

i normally do this........damp hair up into 4 sections like in pony tails. blow dry a little but still keep a little damp. before you take down your hair put a little hair spray in and than take it down. than try this stuff that i sware is a mircale. its by special effects. its mousse. so instead of gel, use mousse. than flip your head over and put some mousse in both your hands and scruntch all over your hair..
