I guess it must have been the Russians since they were the first ones in space. However an equivalent was used on the high altitude aircraft such as the U2 and SR71.

Checkout this link, and it seems to point to the SK1, the suit being the one used by Yuri Gagarin as the first, some interesting reading, thanks for the question, I learnt something today.

don't know who did,but I used to work in plants inside reactors purged with nitrogen using S.A.M.S. (self contain breathing air mask,services) and it was the first astronaut helmet it had hinges on the top, microphone on the top inside, speakers by your head inside. when you put it on it ,you put your face first then the back latches, they allen bolt you in I know why NASA,didn't use it.... it felt like a 2X4 was digging in the back of your head!!!! used to work 12 hrs. straight under the helmet for $4.75 an hour (I was young and dumb back then) the company was R.S.I (reactors services Incorporated) not the answer you was looking for... thought I could share some infomation!!
