Because they are emotional about the topic or incident and it blocks something in their brain and the foul language is all they can think of to describe or react. Its like a shut down for their brain! My husband gets up in the mornings using foul language such as, " Its been f.... raining again." I politley ask him that his feet has not hit the floor yet and if he cannot say something nice without that language, don't talk to me! It is very annoying and when he does it in public it is embarrassing because you have people who don't want to hear it! Especially young parents with their children......I know I hated to hear people talk like that! Don't get me wrong, it is in my vocabulary also. But, I try to respect other people around me.

people will use the language they are most comfortable with: if a person habitually uses f*** and m*** among their friends they will use that to you also (or at least they will if they consider you a friend).
broadly speaking the less we like someone the more formal we make our language when we are speaking to them. at home with my partner i might say: 'i have a bad gut', if i was talking to someone at work i would be more likely to say: 'i feel bloated'.
and because we have different ways of speaking there will always be folk who imagine one way or another of speaking is somehow 'wrong'. in the 1920s it was wrong to say that a woman 'perspired': there was even a saying about it:
'horses sweat, men perspire, women simply glow.'
the problem is of course that once you begin to call a thing not by its name there is imminent danger that you will forget what you are talking about. 'collateral damage' sounds so much better than 'civilian casualties' (and that in turn sounds better than 'dead children'); 'surveillance' sounds a lot better than 'illegal phone tapping'.
i never hear people use 'foul language' in conversation because i think all words are beautiful. i dislike hearing language used inaccurately or dishonestly of course, but my experience has been that people who insist on social niceties are no more honest than folk who tell it like it is.
you seem to have a problem with words;- they are only words. perhaps you should pay more attention to what people are actually saying. here is a link to a speech by a man who was always careful never to use 'low' language, and who even conducted a campaign against 'low' morals and 'low' painting.

Nobody ever uses foul language. It's just that everybody has a different definition of what is foul. Haven't you noticed the change in language that is spoken on TV. You never heard swear words on TV, now they are commonplace. The country's values have changed. I only use foul words for emphasis and when I'm with people who use foul words as part of their ordinary conversation. It's very difficult not to model their behavior and sometimes their expressions are funny.

Some people picked up the habit from their environment. Others simply think it is "cool" to curse because the media and their peers tell them so. Still others feel that they cannot convey their emotions properly without using foul language because of their limited vocabulary.

I think some of males consider it masculine to use foul language, think it makes them seem bold. I view it as a a fool trying to express himself.

Klay...you've got to be kidding. Are you hanging out with my brother-in-law? Using slang, like the f word, is just a habit. Plain and simple.

I think they think they are showing some playful part of their personality. Sometimes they are actually giving off the image of ignorance or even stupidity. But I really don't think habitual users of foul language think people are offended. I think they think they are funny.

Because it slowly becomes a habit.
And then when you want to say other words, they won't come into your mind because you're so used to saying swear words instead.
