Did you have severe ups and downs when first starting on Welbutrin? Did they level off after a while?

Oh, I have been on Wellbutrin for maybe a month now and now that you mention it I am having some mood swings. See, it is very hard sometimes for women to determine due to PMS moodiness, menopause moodiness and just plain old moodiness. I had an unexpected meltdown yesterday that seemed very important at the time, but when I thought about it later, I way over reacted. At other times, I get pretty excited about minor things that are going my way. I hope this levels off, I was half crazy before I started taking it, I don't need any help getting the rest of the way there.

It's possible.... I haven't been on that for a while... As with any new drug that enters your body, your body needs time to "work" with it and get "adjusted" with it... Kinda like starting a new job, you need a week "to understand, and learn where everything is"... Give it 2-4 weeks... If you are still having Mood Swings, then talk with your doctor, There are lots of drugs out there... Known from experience tho, I did like Welbutrin the best... and everytime you "switch" then once again your body has to "get adjusted" to it... So make sure you give it some time first.

I have been taking wellbutrin for about 4 months now. I did not notice mood swings when I started taking it. How it affects you as compared to me may be different. I like it but I do feel like I have "leveled out" and may need to increase the dose mainly related to increased stress.
If you have been taking it for 2 or 3 weeks and have not noticed improvement in your mood and well being I would talk to your doctor. You may need an alternate medication. By now you should notice a difference and not be experiencing mood swings.

Wellbutrin isn't for everyone. My wife tried it and had violent mood swings, she had to go back on Zoloft to control it. I on the other hand have done well with it.

I find wellbutrin less invasive. It allows me to feel things, without having to deal with feelings of hopelessness, etc. It makes it easier for me to work through my problems.

I don't have the data handy but wellbutrin affects a different chemical in the brain than drugs like Zoloft do. Etc. if that chemical is not the cause of your imbalance it will do you no good at all. I highly suggest you go back to the doctor immediately and get changed off of it and try something like Zoloft instead.

I had a similar issue with Paxil one time, it did me almost no good at all (in fact I felt like I was coming apart at the seams when I was on it.)

Personally, I think these pharmaceuticals are very toxic to the body. They aren't natural substances.

Why don't you try using something natural to even out your moods?

I've found magnesium (oxide or citrate) to be very helpful for evening out moods.

I'd also recommend a really good mineral supplement.
Eat lots of fresh leafy dark green vegetables.
Eat broccoli and fresh spinach leaves.
