I am against illegal immigration, so I am labeled a racist, however I have no problem if someone wants to immigrate to the United States legally. Why have people labeled the people who oppose illegal immigration as being racist against Mexicans. Not all Illegal immigrants are Mexican. I just have a problem with people who come to this country illegaly then take advantage of the systems, maybe they are doing the jobs people dont want to do, but there is always someone to do a job, no matter what.

Just a note, my family emmigrated from Hungary the right way, they got their green card and they became citizens of the United States.

I'm a racist too, according to many people. What's really sad is that I was married to a legal Mexican. He was born in the U.S.A. His dad is from Mexico and his mom from Nebraska.

I have 2 grown children that are half mexican, born and raised in the U.S. I do not agree with illegal immigrants though.. My married name used to be Gonzalez. How much more mexican can you get?

As far as the jobs, Americans don't want them, why? Because they are paying a few bucks an hour instead of what they should pay. Americans would take those jobs, but they want to pay so low that no one but illegals will take the jobs.

My kids are half mexican and half american, however neither know Spanish.. They were born in the U.S. and that is the language they learned.

I have a friend that is 67 years old. 100% Mexican, but she was born in the U.S. She asked her parents why she was never taught Spanish. They told her that she was a U.S. citizen and there was no reason for her to know Spanish. Wish they believed that now.

How can I be racist when my own children are half Mexican? Because I am against illegal immigrants I am though in many peoples eyes. I agree, do it the right way and I don't think many people really have a problem with it.

Illegal immigration is against the law, and the law is overdue to be enforced. Gross negligence and other factors have contributed to a bad situation where people feel that since they've gotten along for so long with breaking the law, that they can continue to without sanction or penalty.

I support the border fence, and the US Border Patrol, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. We don't need 'guest workers', we don't need more hyperbole, we need our state legislatures along with Congress to put it in writing and figure out how to send em home. But, it's up to them, if they choose 1/2 measures and disunity, what it'll mean is that you'll have to do more for yourself, more security, ultimately MORE law enforcem ent(stitch in time saves nine), and higher taxes to pay for the whole mess. And, since the country's already swimming in debt, there's the real question of how they intend to pay for all of this, exactly.

The sooner we get serious about taking care of our borders, the sooner this problem will be resolved...

There might desire to be various distinctive motives: a million) They themselves at one time have been unlawful immigrants. So, they have first-hand adventure as to the struggles of immigrants and pick to be certain their fellow "countrymen" make something of their lives as they have been finally able to. 2) they have friends or family members that are unlawful immigrants. 3) they are humanitarians/ activists. Edit: isn't it exciting? some human beings have this type of sturdy hatred for immigrants, that they are going to easily provide a "thumbs down" in elementary terms for answering a query rapidly - in spite of if there is not any opinion in it the two way and it in elementary terms states some attainable solutions to the question.

I don't think it is fair that a person has to endure a particular period of transition that can be very frustrating and time consuming while the next person just cuts in line and heads right on in through the back door. Thus I am for legal immigrants and not for illegal immigrants. I am a Mexican-American born in the best country in the world, America, just like the last five generations of my family. This is a give and take situation but unfortunately it seems as if the illegals are taking more than they are giving. However, they are giving back. When you think of all the prepaid services out there such as home phone, cell phone etc., who do you think these are aimed at? Not just people with bad credit or whom are underaged, it's for the large illegal population that can't revieve post paid services. Take this extra income away and the companies loose probably more than half of their profits. Not to mention that everytime an illegal makes purchases at a store, restraunt etc. they are paying city, state or whatever tax that may be in effect for that particular purchase. So people can't gripe about them not paying taxes at all because they do, just not to the extent that we think would be fair. And I can also say from experience, mainly with people who have worked for me, I have simply employed people of other nationalities simply because their quality of work is better. I can't say this is a fact, it is just true for me that out of all of the people that have worked for my father and then for me, the illegals just happened to take their work more seriously. They [the illegal immigrants] did it far better and never complained about the kind of work they did. This made it a much better work environment for both us [the employer] and them [the employees]. Not to mention since their quality of work was better, so was their pay. So it wasn't a matter of "cheap" labor. All I can say is that if your mother, father, son, daughter or yourself was starving and had no means to support them or yourself you would find a solution and find one quick. This just so happens to be their solution although many think it is our problem. It may sound now that I am for illegals but no. If a person comes here illegally I think he has the right to work. Just as long as he gets his citizenship while he's working. With that said, I also don't think a person should be able to just walk into your house, make their own rules and have you change yours, and have you completley renovate your language or quality of living just to please them, make it easier on them or just because they feel it is owed to them. They might say if you want our business, speak our language. Well I say if you want to live, work, play and breed in our country then learn our language. And if you want to wave a flag make sure it's the flag of the country your in. America. If your so proud of the country you came from that you have to paint the emblem on your car or wave their flag etc then maybe you should still be living in that country. I say if your homesick. GO HOME! It is in my most humble opinion very disrespectful to wave the flag of another country in the country your in. Would you like it if you father brought his mistress everywhere you went simply becasue he felt she was "better" than your mother. No. I would say if your that proud of her and you love her that much than with her. Don't parade her around my mother. Yes it may be true that the average American will melt outside if in the heat too long because we're all spoiled by air condition and we may think that we are too good to sweep, mop and pick up after someone else even if we do get paid for it or hey we made the investment to go to college and get an education to make more money without having to do those kinds of jobs but hey if there is someone in the United States that is from another country and is willing to do a job that an unemployed American recieving benefits won't do because it doesn't pay enough than hey, give it to the guy who wants it. Just make sure it's to the guy who is here legally because he did his part. He obeyed the law and he got a peice of paper.

people who labeled those who are against ILLEGAL immigration BUT not LEGAL immigration are IGNORANT of the whole situation and MISINFORMED of real issues. These are nothing but pompous, self-righteous bums who ride on the issues they barely know about. i agree with you, some US citizen out there somewhere WILL take up a job "nobody wants" no matter what the pay is as long as he/she has a job to feed him/her.

Vicente Fox hired a big Public Relations Firm (also used by President Bush) to try to "sell" open borders and illegals coming here to Americans. They use trigger words

such as

Racist

Lazy

White

Greedy

to intimidate us...then yell

AZTLAN in our streets and

FLY the Mexican flag to show their loyalty to their country.

YOUR NOT A RACIST, DUDE. BUT I TELL YOU WHAT. I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT THE U.S. IS AN ACCOMPLICE IN ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. CALL ME CRAZY BUT OUR ECONOMY AND SMALL BUSINESS BENEFIT FROM CHEAP LABOR. I CALL IT NEO-SLAVERY. THE LARGEST PERIOD OF GROWTH IN THIS COUNTRY CAME DURING THE SLAVERY PERIOD. IF THE US WANTED TO SHUT DOWN THE BORDERS, WE COULD HAVE DONE IT YEARS AGO. YOU EVER WONDER WHY ALL SIGNS AT AIRPORTS AND BUS STATIONS ARE BILINGUAL? OR WHAT ABOUT TELEPHONE PROMPTS FOR SOCIAL SERVICES? GET USE TO IT HOMBRE, YOU BETTER LEARN SOME CONVERSATIONAL ESPANOL!

New Immigrants

My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the OC Register which, of course, was not printed. So, I decided to "print" it myself by sending it out on the Internet.
Pass it along if you feel so inclined.

Dave LaBonte

Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the Orange County Register

Dear Editor: So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.
Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer.
Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times.
They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.
They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture.
Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.
Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany, Italy, France and Japan.
None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan.
They were defending the United States of America as one people. When we liberated France, no one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German American or the Irish American.
The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here.
These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.
And here we are in 2006 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country.
I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has
become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life.
I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.
And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty, it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill.
I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.(signed) Rosemary LaBonte

P. S. Pass this on to everyone you know!!!

KEEP THIS LETTER MOVING!!

I hope this letter gets read by millions of

America is the land made of immigrant either it is legal or illegal and that why they are a great country but if you think that US was only reserved for legal Hungarian than you better go to your nearest US immigration and asked about the numbers of illegal Hungarian in the US . After you have seen the number , than asked yourself do they have to be deported out of US because they are illegal. I bet you might change your mind if you have not lost your Hungarian roots or unless you are one of the millions who are confused Americans who thinks that America is a race made of passports with an eagle on it. If they are working in US at least the US are doing a good work by assisting millions in try to feed themselves rather than just bombing & bullying .
