I have windows XP with SP2 installed on my computer. It was working well. Since few days whenever I open My Network Places, it opens so late. Remaining functions of windows XP are working well. I have P-IV with 512 MB RAM. There is not any virus & spyware as I have checked it with latest AVG & Ewido. I dont want to format my computer. Kindly help me in order to fix the problem.

Well, don't reinstall, yet... I had to just reinstall my system, cause it was going aweful, and I mean that. In my own experience, many things open slower. I would say, open the task manager and check the number of processes running. Then keep it open while you open network places, and see what the cpu usage is. Have you installed anything lately. When did you first notice it. Some things may not mix well. Like my Norton System Wroks was working fine, then not... But I tried to install Norton Internet security '06, and system works 06, and then try to go back to sw 05, and that messed up a whole lot of stuff. Try booting to safe mode and see if it opens fast there. Not as many things are loaded then. If it opens fast, write down all processes that are running and compare it to the list when you boot up normally.

There could be many different causes for a slow response from network locations. For instance a firewall could slow down connecting. FYI check this site for some ideas that could help

It almost always runs slowly. It runs a full mapping of the network every time you try to acess it. Nothing's really wrong. Same thing happens to me
