I'm downloading it now and it is taking forever, how long does it usually take?

I think it's a very good program. I haven't really used MS software extensively so it's hard to judge usability issues. I think it does a pretty good job interchanging documents with MS if that's needed. If you have very complex documents they aren't always perfect though. So it depends on your needs and whether MS gives you something that's worth the price difference.

Personally, I'd go for it.

OpenOffice is supposed to be a great replacement to Microsoft Office. I've downloaded it myself but have yet to weigh the two against one another. It's part of my move from Microsoft to the many, and free, software available to everyone. (read: Linux)

As far as downloading goes, that's going to depend on the connection type you are paying for (dial-up, cable, satellite, dsl, etc.), your PC processor speed and RAM, and the site from which you selected as your download point for OpenOffice. Patience is a virtue. It's been two days since you posted so it should have completed by now.

It is GREAT. However if you don't have a high speed connection go to one of the open source websites and you can get a disk for about two dollars plus postage. Contact me if you like and I can give you a couple of sources. NEVER MAY MORE THAN A NOMINAL SUM FOR OPEN OFFICE.

open office is the worst soft ware i have ever used. it is a peice of junk, it takes for ever to down load, and the reason it is free is because it is not even good enough to sell in walmart. get some thing else you will have nothingbut trouble with that.
