Global trade in general and global trade on food in particular is of very high importance.
1. Availability of all kinds of food in all seasons in all places.
2. Can avoid or at least reduce wastage of perishable produces.
3. Can utilise and capitalise on geographical and climatic advantage and increase production of food alleviate hunger.
4. All governments need to form a consensus on modus operandi to avoid exploitation by vested interests and hoarding.

Global trade promoted single-mindedly, without sectarian interests, is good for mankind.

Very important; when one nation becomes technologically proficient in producing one type of food, they can provide for other nations who may not be such high producers. Or they can trade with another country who is technologically proficient in a different type of food.

More and more people are realizing that it is more important to buy local produce and by doing so they not only support small business and farmers in their own area but less fuel is used to transport the goods making them cheaper and definately better for the environment.
