This guy is about 30 and I'm 22. So he's much older than me and seems like an aggressive and tough person. He doesn't strike me as the shy type based on seeing him interacting with other people. Why would he hesitate to approach me to talk when he had many opportunities at work to do so? What are some signs that guys show that they like you without using words?

If he is not talking to you and normally an outgoing guy...thats the first sign (from a guys POV). No matter the age, you could be 22 and he is 30 but if he like you and not talking to you, he could be intimidated. If you like someone to the point where you dont talk to them, its usually because you dont want to look like a fool. In that case, he is intimidated. I suggest breaking the ice for him. Joke with him, ask him open ended questions that he cant give u a simple yes or no answer. The more u do that the more it allows you to get to know him and build communication. That way, you can analyze if he likes you, or if he is just ignoring you for a reason.

He too might think the age difference is too much. IF you are interested be friendly, don't make him be the 1 to speak 1st.
You would be surprised are those who are shy.. but don't seem like it with people they know.

He might be afraid of rejection or he hasn't figured out the right way to approach you

He might hope that you hear he likes you and that you initiate it. He may not want to freak you out if you are not into him. Guys will talk to you when they have no reason to if they like you, even if they talk about nothing important...
