Ive done this several times before and its worked perfect - this time i dyed it (dark brown) and it didnt dye the roots. the rest of my hair is great - but the roots didnt dye at all.. for some crazy reason - i dunno? im keen to go real dark, like black and would put that in and hope that it covers the roots. Is this gonna damage my hair real bad? why didnt the roots dye? WHATS GOING ON! :' ( Help

Obviously the dye you used was either not a permanent dye or was too light. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT dye your hair black unless you want it to be permanent. In order to change the colour after black, you must strip (bleach it) and it will damage your hair. Choose a colour similar to your ends; a deep brown shade, maybe a level 2 or 3. Apply to the roots only and let sit for 25 mins (if the dye calls for 30) Apply the remainder of the bottle to your ends and leave on for 5 mins.

You could have bought an old box. You could have missed the roots. You could have done the right thing the color on the rest of your hair just has more deposits on it so it doesn't look the same. When you do a re-touch you only do the roots and leave the rest until the last 5-10 minutes then pull the rest of the way thru. I would go to a professional....but that's cause I am one and I don't like to see people have to pay more because they messed it up on their own. It's a color correction when the stylist has to fix it for you and you will pay...big time.

I wouldn't go black. That is the hardest color to remove. I have had to remove black and it is a very long tedious procedure, don't do it and it's not worth it. It will wind up damaged beyond what you think and you will be so sorry you did it. If you want to do some black do the ends or some partial black. That is the new look anyway. Partial black with some other color.

Don't go darker.....
You said the new growth didn't take.... Have you began taking a new medication? Medications can effect your hair in many ways.
Shampoo your hair with a clarifying shampoo, to remove any build up and try the same color on a small test patch only. Try an area in front between the top of the head and the ear, this way you can see it good and if it doesn't take it will be easily hidden.
Good Luck

what you may be noticing is buildup of color. what happens is... every time you color your hair you get a "layer" of color. if you are pulling the color through the ends every time, which i am sure you are, then the color builds up on the previous colors. the color probably did work same as it always has you are just noticing the ends to be darker because of all the buildup of previous colors. as for dying your hair black, not a good idea. if your ends are already as saturated with color as i'm guessing they are then if you dye it black it will be very hard to change(and damaged as well)
options?: choose a darker color but just do the outgrowth and leave the ends alone to help with damage. if you want to lighten it i would recommend going to a salon. if you try to do it yourself you definettly will be dissappointed in the results.

Concentrate on the roots!
Get a friend to help you put foils in your hair, and use the special brush you can use to apply the dye!

That's because you missed the roots!!! Try going to a hair salon, then have better dyes that are especially for roots.
