A friend of mine (a poet) went on a long rant (as poets do) about how they should have left the paintings in the Sistine Chapel alone. He went on and on about how they should have been allowed to age naturally like everything else, yada yada yada.

I told him the world would be better off if they’d bought 5 gallons of off white interior latex paint and painted over the whole thing.

He was stunned, laughed, and called me a ***** artist azzhole (I'm a sculptor).

Why did he laugh and why did he call me an azzhole?

He probably didn't realize how much harm was done by the whole "pull my finger" scene

apparently he loves art and the Sistine Chapel was painted by michale angelo who was famous in that time. i think that it was an awesome piece of work and it took him so much time to do it as well. a he had a lot of dedication to his work and it is also a part of history. it's not everyday a person paints the roof of a chapel.

Presumably he laughed at you for saying such an idiotic thing.

At least he was able to appreciate the absurdity of your statement, possibly even in its juxtaposition with his own. He could have become irate and said something worse.

Even though the art itself is astoundingly beautiful, I agree that they should have been whitewashed.
